Norton UK Website drop 961 , Variants and Superlight from Bike listing

Jus’ wondrin’ if there’s been any news of the 40 961s they’re gonna build “late this year or early next” as there clearly ain’t much of this year left (thank goodness)?

I’m also curious to ask if anyone on here is contemplating the purchase of one ??

From what I recall, the front wheel was listed for a 748/916...cant remember for the rear. I doubt it would have been specific to Norton as when they first started using cf wheels, they wouldnt have had the financial or branding clout to get a cheaply designed bst rim...much easier to design around an off the shelf part.

That makes sense.

But the thing that’s not made sense so far, despite several attempts with the factory, is why the BSTs won’t fit on ABS bikes...

Well, it makes little sense to any half capable engineer or home mechanic....but to a manufacturer, its probably something they just dont want to bother get involved in, being easier to just say it cant be done. The abs ring simply bolts on with the disc. So with a bit of spacing and adapting, anything is always possible....eventually.
Better still...bin the ABS. I personally never liked the look of it all, and the feel in the lever. That is very much personal choice though, and hugely subjective.

I doubt it. If they have type approval and not Euro 5 compliant, then if they are built after the 1st Jan, they can't be sold in the UK or EU. If they were built this month, then they could be sold in the EU only as they have implemented changes due to covid affecting the industry. Last I heard the UK industry was trying to find out what they will be subject to as the UK has not adopted the changes that the EU have in place to allow the sale of non Euro 5 machines. The other option would be for the rejection of the Euro 5 regs for the UK, in which case they could. Just a couple of months ago the UK retailers were pushing for a decision, not sure if that has happened.
The EU has agreed any EU made bike made after March, or any machine made outside of the EU but imported prior to the end of this month can be sold post 1st Jan. The UK did not adopt this. UK Retailers were needing a decision from the UK government as they would need to pre register Euro 4 stock this month.

More than happy with no ABS. Love the fact that with this bike you are forced to just ride it, with no tech intrusion! Always chuckle at my riding mates fiddling around with their tech before we set off! Each to their own of course and with all of that power I suppose the tech is essential. Give me old school man and machine any day. Definitely gives you a better appreciation of the limitations of the machine. Far less likely to take serious risks and trusting the tech to get you out of the shite.

Very well put. I agree.

But... removing ABS off of an ABS equipped bike, especially if it’s a late bike where ABS is a legal requirement of Euro 4, could land you ‘up the creek without a paddle’ in the legal aftermath of an accident...
