I used a Renold chain for my P-11 (same clutch as the Atlas, just a shorter chain, 68 v 76 link). At just under 350 - yes, 350 - miles, the chain broke and popped a chunk out the inner and outer primary cases.
I wrote Renold to tell them of the problem, and they expressed 'regret'. Their explanation was that the chain must have been altered by a third party ( BTW, every plate on the chain is stamped with Renold's mark), or it had been improperly installed. I got the impression that Renold felt they had no responsibility in the matter, as they had not sold me the chain directly. I offered to send the chain back to them for analysis, but was informed that wouldn't be necessary. As far as I'm concerned, Renold does not deserve their reputation (as my old man used to say, 'they can go pound salt').

You should ignore all this poppycock from Renolds, and if you still have the receipt go back to the shop and ask for a full refund as the chain was “not fit for purpose”
