Pull the plugs, re-connect them and set them on the head. Turn the key on and off a few times. Do you get spark?

If not, try new plugs. If still no spark, start troubleshooting your electrics.

If spark, start troubleshooting your carbs IF YOU ARE SURE THE ENGINE IS TIMED RIGHT.

...oh, yeh, check your valve adjustment first.

Well all I did was clean the ground from the battery to the frame. It started after a few kicks. I rode it around and the shift pattern is different than normal as I down shifted the first few times when I thought I was upshifting. The only issue besides dirty carbs is the primary is oozing oil when the bike is running. Is that center bolt the only thing that holds it to the motor? I'm assuming there is an O-ring instead of a gasket right?

You are right about the primary case.

RGM Motors do a box section type o ring that worked well for me.

don't for get a bit of your favourite goo!

Before you get all strange with the primary drain and refill it. Use 5 OZ's not the 7oz's the manual calls for. It is easy for the motor to push extra wet sumped oil into the primary over filling it. You may not have a leak but you may have too much oil in the primary.

I will check it out today. If I drain it the cover is cracked open anyway. So I will remove the cover and see if the band is wasted or not. I also read in the manual that there is an oiler for the chain and it has some type of felt in a filter looking thing. I will look for that and check it out also. Thanks for the responses. This bike is a blast to ride I'm glad that I went with the trade.

Originally, the chain oiler would have tee'd off the rigid return oil pipe on the rear of the oil tank, however your oil tank isn't original so it's something you would need to check.

the oiler from the oil tank was for the rear chain not the primary you should know that l.a.b

I believe the question asked was: "is the chain lubed by an auto oiler somewhere behind the primary cover?"

Also chopped850 said "I also read in the manual that there is an oiler for the chain and it has some type of felt in a filter looking thing."

Which to me is a description of the drive chain oiler regulator?: http://www.nortonmotors.de/ANIL/Norton% ... 16&Part=24

So I understood the question to specifically refer to the drive chain?? (some owners more used to Triumphs & BSAs may expect to find a drive chain oiler at the rear of the primary case that was fed from the primary case oil.)

I certainly wasn't suggesting the oiler went to the primary chain.

The primary had way too much oil in it. I removed the level line plug and and let alot of oil flow from the bike. When it stopped I replaced the plug.

I pulled the carbs as they looked nasty on the outside. I soaked the first one in my soaker. Cleaned up nicely and when I put the main jet back in it snapped at the threads. I have put in hundreds of brass jets and this is the first that snapped. It was not crossthreaded either. Is there another jet out there that will work like a jap jet or am I stuck buying Amal jet's only?

I think you were just unlucky, or the jet had been overstressed in the past by a previous ham-fisted owner?
