Non starting issue

Having recently purchased a new 2016 Commando Sport MK11. It seems to have developed a non-starting problem. I had a problem from new with the neutral light flashing at all different times and revs, during the first 500 mile running in period (Not a pleasant experience below 3000 revs, due to rough running) The non-starting issue seemed to develop during the running in procedure. When the ignition is turned on the instruments appear to kick into action, but not the fuel pump. Putting the bike in gear, then returning it to neutral can sometimes initiate the fuel pump noise, and allow the bike to start.
I have had the bike dealer serviced at 503 miles, the neutral light modification done, and a new battery fitted to cure the original non-starting issue, due to the battery not holding its charge. I always plug the bike into the battery optimizer when not in use, as advised by the dealer. The non-starting issue seems to have re-appeared, and is being uplifted by the dealer for further investigation. Has anyone else heard of this problem, and what was the cure ?

Mine broke down early in its life due to a loose electrical connection in the fuel pump circuit. It came back with a few tie wraps securing the plugs that go into the fuse box.

Hello Iwilson , When I saw the image of your Domi with the fuse box plugs zip tied tight , I did the same to mine as a precaution . At the same time I checked to make sure that the relays inside the fuse box had the needed dense foam inside the cover to hold them in.

This sounds like a loose connection . Search for the thread that shows Iwilson's fuse box plugs zip tied.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll let the dealer investigate the issue over the next few days. This would maybe explain the rough running below 3K revs during the running in period. The bike is running better since being serviced, but not as I'd expected.

Mine also has the "N" neutral light flicker that's annoying as hell while riding. I haven't looked into it yet. Did they say what was the cause or fix?

There is a factory modification (electrical patch ?) for the neutral light flashing issue, which I had done while my bike was there for it's 500 mile service. It seems to have cured the problem on my bike......

Patch meaning? A PCM reprogram or a electrical repair (bad wire)

Cable patch with a little resistor. Same as the patch for flashing fuel indication lamp, but more complicated to fit...

I need to see if I can get one of these.

Just ordered one, but in the moment they don't have in stock. You may have to wait a week or two...

Update on the non-starting issue with my bike. Second attempt by the dealer has been diagnosed as an intermittent fault with the clutch switch. Currently awaiting part from Norton......

Hello Patchy-man , When you say clutch switch is it the switch in the clutch lever that activates when you pull in the lever ? Thanks

Do you mean the neutral switch?
I didn't find anything about a clutch switch in the manual...

The Clutch Safety Switch is a plunger type switch (like the one that turns the fridge light on and off) right under the clutch lever. It is depressed and activated with the lever out to prevent starting the bike in gear and jumping away. Maybe Patchy-man's was stuck in and wouldn't spring out with the lever pulled. Maybe a shot of oil could have freed it up since it was an intermittent problem. Looks like an easy place to get gunked up.
