I have a 74 850 that has been a multi-year project to get back on the road after 20 years in storage. I am to the point of starting it but I have no spark. It is all stock (points, coils etc.). I have no red ignition light (all other electrics work fine) and the wiring and connectors have been cleaned and verified. I am getting 12.11 volts to the ballast resistor but only 2.30 volts out.
What should I be reading out of the B/R? Thanks.....Jerry

Disconnect the white/brown [WN] wire from the assimilator WL terminal and earth/ground the wire.
If the red light then works with the ignition on, the fault is unlikely to be in the circuit between the ignition switch and the assimilator.

Is this with the ballast to coils wire [white/purple] connected or disconnected? Points/condensers connected? Points open/closed?

What is the Ohms reading across the ballast resistor?

I had the coil wire disconnected. I have now removed the B/R and have found the "spring" connections to the terminal spade connector rivets severely corroded barely making any connection at all. when I probed them they fell apart. I think I will try to solder the wire to the terminal for troubleshooting purposes until I can find a replacement B/R.....Jerry
