No gripes here.......

Happy to hear that your steed is running well. It seems that once your Commando is fettled, it doesn't need a lot of love. I rarely fiddle with mine, just a once over in the spring usually. Headed out on a 5K mile trip this summer, so we'll see how we do for a couple of old farts.
Milford,
Where are you heading on your trip?Sounds great.

If I had a road-going Commando, I would not try to make it go fastrer. But I would research this forum and other sources to find out what has failed in service. I eould replace the bits which have given trouble. With my 850 motor, I am surprised it is so reliable. If it was a Triumph 650, it would be dead by now.
I have only raced the 850 a few times, but it is always up at about 7000 RPM, and often see 7,500 RPM. I have not even lightened the valve gear. I am really impressed with it.

That's basically what this forum is for Al
We share information of what works and what dosent

Leaving SW Ohio to the National Norton Rally in Washington state. About 2,300 miles each way if I go the fastest way, which I won't. Usually these trips out west are a mix of mostly 2 lanes with some Interstate thrown in.
Sounds like a GREAT TRIP. 😎

Commandos are great touring bikes. Reliable, good mileage, fun to ride, easy to fix. I've put 40,000+ miles on this speedometer and never had a problem that couldn't be fixed on the side of the road. Been to both coasts, up into Canada, out to California, Oregon and back in 10 days. A gallon can of gas in the saddle bag makes a huge difference.

With the Interstate tank I've gone 300 miles, so no need to carry fuel. Agree on the touring. Mines been all over the place as well.
