Yes, I'm old enough Nortoneer now to read the NOC and Capt. Norton and Brit Iron list to get the various push rod trap/hold methods. I go with the zip ties. But I'm so so spoiled by Peels ground down rocker ends its a one shot task each time. I didn't grind the right area on Trixie's rockers, ugh, but will trim off a bit of the rim of exhaust rod top as only lacks a little clearance to slide home almost as easy as Peel. I'm the first I know of using over head rubber bands to hold rockers in sockets but sure its been done prior to a decade ago, just more common sense I posted it way back when. If I can't gain the clearance then I dread my next fumble fingered frustrating novice level stress straining swearing sweating suffering. I'm wavering badly to suck out Trixie's spindles and fix the rockers the rest of the way , but jeeze luoise were the spindles a tough fit so don't know which I dread more is all. There always the hope the head won't need touching again for 10's of 1000's of miles, like we hear of now and then.

Of all of my least favorite procedures for Norton maintenance, controlling slippery pushrods during head removal and install is at the top of my list. I've used zip ties for years to grab them, but another alternative that I've found easier to use is gear ties. Since these are covered with a grip rubber, they're easier to use and I don't need to be concerned about snipped pieces of nylon from a zip tie falling into my pushrod tunnel. Using the gear tie is the first time I ever thought it was an easy job. I also remove and deliver the head from the left side of the bike that has proven easier as well.
