New (to me) Dominator

I’m really interested in hearing more about your Sahara ride!

Theres a pub section, or a motorcycle related section, how about posting a bit of a story and some pics in there ??
I can do that for sure! Here's a build thread and some pictures you can take a look at:

There are some pics at the end, but I can post something up here as well!

Ahh bugger, sorry I could have sent you some screws...I never thought chap. I replace those shite stainless ones with high tensile.
I'm a little torn on the rubber rear mounting bobbins, as won't that allow the exhaust to flex more....leading to weld failures at the front?

No worries Stu, all sorted on the screw front. Yea, I'm not 100% on the bobbins. They are pretty short, so hopfully limitd flex. I know iwilson on here had Megaphone copies made and was advised without any give, cracking would occur.

He did this:

and as far as I know has reported no issues.

Additionally I know of one owner who has seen cracking of both the rear mount and the around the pipe right at the head port..thankfully not at the same time!

When mounted up, I'll have a look at how much flex there is. It all works perfectly in my head, so reality might be a different matter!

They crack near the cylinder head flange, and also along the sections (megaphones are many sections tig welded and ground back) and at the rear mounting points. In my opinion a lot of the problems came from people forcing the pipes to sit level, before bolting them up. So they end up under tension. When I fit them, where ever they sit is where they stay...wonky or not. Ideally they should have been sand bent, sprung at the flange and rubber mounted at the rear.

It's been a while, but due an update here. Both brackets made and things are running fine. No issues with cracking so far..time will tell I guess.

So onto a new project, raised woodcraft bars. I thought I would give these a go!

Here you can see how much the woodcraft bars raise the clip ons

Once I had both in place, I contacted Hel, here in the UK, manufacturers of the original lines, and had longer versions made. Not too expensive and really quick service.

Getting the clutch line off proved to be the trickiest, as a lot has to come off to get to it, but all done.

As I ended up taking out the airbox, I thought I would do the IAC valve delete while I was at it. I tapped the hole between the two chokes to M10 and use an M10 grab screw and some sealant to block the passage.

here is where I hit a problem. The rubber seal between the airbox and TB's had split:

Stue Bodycote mention on FB that the Domi part was unique. Bugger.
He also mentioned that Krazy horse here had purchased a load of stock from the old Norton, so I could try there.

I dropped them an email and Ben Godfrey kindly emailed back. they indeed have a few pallets of parts. mostly cosmetic bit not much in the way of service parts. He has a list of parts and he said he fairly regularly goes through looking for specific parts. He came up with a similar part for the Commando, so I was able to pay him and have it delivered. How different could it be?

Turns out quite different.

Luckily, you can cut these down and use them, but due to different flange thicknesses, it makes it all a bit tight

I have ordered some narrower hose clamps, as the old ones won't fit:

I'll also need longer screws that hold the flange assembly to the airbox, so this will all come apart again anyway.

One other issue, my fuel pipe linking the pump to the TB's was showing it's age

So I had some quality replacement hose here:

When I bought my alloy tank, it came with a pump and spare connection line. Always handy to have. I noted the connection hose was way shorter than my orignal..not sure why, so I'll investigate:

I'm also going to revise the engine breathing as well..more like how Norton originally did it. More on this soon.

I'm currently blocking off my idle control shared passage between the chokes too. What are you going to do with the hose from the valve and the electrical connection to the valve? I'm wondering, if the electrical connection is disconnected, will it light up the EML? Only one way to find out I guess. 😁

I have a 2014 and I removed the entire idle air motor and bracket . I packed dieelectric grease into the IAM connector plug and taped/secured out of the way. I turned off (disabled) the Idle control in the ECU with SXTune . I have had zero problems with this setup BUT I have a SCS Delta 400 . I wish an OMEX user would try this and report back .

Great Work ,

I'll do something similar. Seems easy to tuck it out of the way once disconnected! Yes, expecting to have to turn off the idle control on the ECU! More as it happens!

My bike is a 2018 Euro 4, I have an Omex but I am unable to access it. I'll post back what happens when I reassemble it. I'm currently waiting on a new set of injectors (Bosch). I am thinking about changing to a Delta 400, as I have a few issues with my bike at the moment, it's just the cost holding me back..

The early 961's had OMEX and and no idle control other than the set screw on the flaps. Stu said these worked well so he should know .

I expect there's a routine in the later Omex which will light the EML if the ECU doesn't receive a signal. I'm removing it like you, going to see what happens, pretty sure it'll work, we'll see if it puts the light on.

Starting to put it all back together now but unfortunately I have to wait for two new injectors..

I ran mine like that initially, with the Omex 630....I'm now back to standard ie put another throttle body on along with the iacv and supporting components. As add as this may sound to you all, I love how my Domi is lumpy at idle....it goes with the whole race rep look that I was going for. Also like the fact it'll idle when cold again.

Most can be a twat to catch right on initial fire up....probably not helped by the massive injectors that those bikes run, which can easily flood the plugs. But once warmed, they seem fine.
I've got one in now, with a customer concern of poor starting. I had a quick play yesterday, tried advancing the ignition timing during cranking, which seems to have made a difference. I'll try it again properly tomorrow, as Sundays are nice and quiet on my street.

The later fuel hoses are great, never have an issue (that's the shorter hose)...the others perish.
That breather set up is what I run, except I run mine straight to atmosphere (actually down to the chain), in the hope I would get some additional chain lubrication. Instead I actually get sod all out of the breather.
You can just see the hose aimed at the chain in this first picture.

Bit of an update, Woodcraft bars fitted and pleased with how they have raised the bars

I've not ridden it yet..a few things to button up, but not far off.

Changing the venting has very much cleaned up things behind the engine

A definite improvement to cold starts now. Before it would be very reluctant to idle when cold, but seems very stable. I need to check the idle when warm though, so lets see.

A quick video:
