I have the AN with script ones. They have the three rows of indents inside. They are not latest "quiet" ones but I wish they were.
At full chat you can break the eardrum of the driver of the car you are passing if he has left his window open. If it is shut you
will crack it.
Id go for the new AN ones because if they fall apart, which I doubt, AN is you best shot at getting any assistance.
It is amazing how loud bike were back in the day.

Not sure the origin of my silencers but they have the Norton script and the three rows of indents. I don't find them excessively loud. Riding at the weekend I had 3 pedestrian incidents where they didn't hear me coming. One had ear buds in but the others didn't. No issue as I was travelling at sensible speeds but had to brake on two occasions. Maybe all the noise goes backwards

If you are off the throttles the noise is not bad. If you wind it up it is very sharp and loud. Not a deep thunder but high pitch
tearing of calico.
Yes handy to wake up the pedestrians. Faster than trying to find the horn button!

Horn button is easy, I have indicators on left and horn at bottom left. Headlamp flasher is tricky!

I don't remember for sure but I think I have Wassells on my 73 850. They are nice pipes.

However, I have a set of Epco peashooters on a 84 BMW R100RT and they are far superior in quality. Not very loud either, although that might be a different story on a Norton; no idea.

If and when I have to replace the Norton's pipes, I'm going with Epcos if they're still available.

FWIW/YMMV.

Thanks Kommando, I chose those fekkers, at least they bother to show pics of the internal tube, mounting studs.

They look well made. But only time will tell.
Id love to try a set of the new Andover quiet silencers.
...or at least hear a bike that has them on.
Maybe they can have a sample on a bike on their annual rodeo.

What’s the score with these ‘quiet’ peashooter?

Do they have revised baffles inslde?

If so, do they impact breathing / jetting / performance ?

I can‘t seem to find them on AN website, can someone please post a link ?

Ok, I had already seen those, they look good IMHO.

But why are we calling them ‘quiet’ ? They have ‘original baffling’ which is the fluted tube. Not exactly Euro 4 !!

Quiet is a relative term

Decibels is definitive but not used in the 70's

They seem to make a song and dance about the packing, perhaps that deadens things somewhat.
I must say that after a few months of only riding my 961 (with factory shorties) my 850 now seems very quiet with its earlier version Andover mufflers.
Edit - it's all relative as kommando says.
