Hi All, When installing a new fiber fire ring head gasket is there a standard way they are put on? I have been installing them with the writing on the gasket facing up. They will go on either way. Just wondering if I,am right. Also the JCC pistons I,am installing which are .020 over have a red dot on the inside of the piston next to the pin boss. Is this of any meaning as to which way the pistons go into the cylinders or can they go into the cylinders any old way?

Apart from the obvious, valve pockets cut in the tops, I'd have a close look at the wrist pin bores and cir-clip grooves to ensure they are equal on each side. Also the drill holes in back of the oil rings should be noted. If nothing else, upon the next rebuild the red dots will help ensure the pistons go back in the same position as the carbon build up on the top ridge will match the cylinder.

If you cut the piston in half 90' to the wrist pin, would the left side be a mirror image of the right side? If not there must be specific way to install them.

Writing up is how I would think is correct. Take a close look to see if "top" is not marked somewhere. FWIW here is how an old gasket of mine looks:
Top
new headgasket
Bottom
new headgasket

The head gaskets I've used have always been marked "TOP" on the side opposite to the metal flame ring 'bridge'
