New Commando owner with bad sumping problem

Well it doesn't seem to leak through to the scavenge side, so if the Mk3 check valve works as its supposed to all should be good.
Well, if it were mine, I’d be worried that the pumps willingness to allow so much oil to pass through it so fast may be a sign of internal wear… and that would make me question the pumps efficiency as a pump.

All the check valve does is close off the oil supply… don’t make it pump no better…!

When my pump was letting oil into the sump and the mesh filter in the tank exposed over 2 weeks I refurbished the pump and the time to fill the sump and expose the mesh filter in the tank went out to 3 months. So with the oil pump fitted flat on the crankcase if you are still filling the sump in 24hrs then you still have an issue. A pump leaking past the gears that quick is unlikely to generate much oil pressure in a running engine.

Update,
Pump stripped, gears replaced with a set a mate had in his parts box, (they were a few thou larger od) and rebuilt, ever so slightly tight with just scavenge side installed, and just about the same with only pressure gears installed. Pump turned freely when primed with fresh oil. Then I tested the pump for leakage and got one drop per 3 seconds from the outlet port of the pump (much better than previous attempt), Installed new rubber seal and gaskets. (the old seal was very misshapen compared to the new one). Hopefully this will sort the sumping problem, and I'm confident that pump is working well.
I loosened the rocker feed oil line a quarter turn with the engine idling and very quickly tightened it again as oil squirted out at quite a rate. I will try to track down a pressure gauge to check more thoroughly.

Here's a nice oil pressure gauge kit for Commando:
