Need rest of my centre stand
Need rest of my centre stand
after more than 20yrs using as is getting harder to put up on centre stand .... wondering if missing piece is available or do I bite bullit and get a complete new one .... thanks

You could fabricate a new bar to make things easier, but this stand looks like it's had a bit of a hard life, I'd get a new one they are not very expensive, I recommend you get a new set of mounting bushes while you're at it.

I used a 12.9 high tensile bolt, cut the head off the bolt and screwed it into drilled and tapped rod on the stand and new extension. Then I had it welded up and I then dressed it.

Yep I would say the easy option is get a new centre stand, I think about 70 quid. I rode my 900SS for years where I had to hook the centre stand from under the Conti with my big toe courtesy of some Dutch tourists in a very wet Wales. I had a bolt welded on it eventually but it looked tat.

A-N £91 + vat (if applicable) + shipping.

Craig, I would repair what you have, as the replacements are the most excruciating stands I have ever experienced. The upper end is like standing on a blunt chisel. After using the one which came on my bike a few times I was hobbling around with a foot injury for 6 months. I got a piece of flat bar bent it into an arc, and had a friend weld it on. Then I painted it and stuck on some step grip tape, and never had an issue since.

You can see the original instrument of torture underneath my plate in the first pic..

Cheers,

cliffa.

Thanks to all , think I will see what my friendly welder can do for me on the cheap , if no joy then maybe look at new .... The way the stand looks now, thought maybe the piece missing could be sourced .... oh well

Any decent fabricator should be able to bend a piece of bar to shape, and It can be welded on above the bits you have left.

For the last two Commandos I've rebuilt, I ordered the complete kit center stand from Andover. Part 06.4874. They come with the parts for all Commandos from 1971 on. I've been very happy with them, and especially happy that the Commandos are MUCH easier to put on the center stand than my Triumph Trident.

I had a look on Andover site and thought the # for center stand kit was :06-3052 .... did I mis read or just number wrong , thanks

Got it thanks ! , was looking at number in brackets , daaa

Ya, I don't know why they do that - I'm so used to looking at the number after "part-no:" that I didn't notice that one. I'm guessing at one time that was the number. I just know if you order the one on the "part-no:" line that you get what you want. The other number might work too - never tried it.

I pretty sure you are correct as you have bought a couple was ship costly

Am I the only person who finds these extensions on the stand drag like crazy. Tried to put me in the cliff or over the edge every time I ride the Rimutaka hill.

I cut mine off with an angle grinder. Difficult to use but at least I don’t end up sliding across the road

This used to be the training ground for the Stokes Valley boys to prepare for World Superbike competition ;-)

AN is not terrible on shipping, at least not to the US. It's a little hard for me to say conclusively because when I buy it's usually over 750 USD so the shipping is a small part of it. One recent order was 622.33 GBP and the shipping was 59 GBP. That was a medium sized box.

The exchange is pretty good right now - wish I needed parts!

Some in the UK just like the US try to make extra money by charging a lot for shipping but I've never felt that way about AN. Of course, if you have to pay import duties or VAT it would get real expensive (I don't in the US, but I don't know if you do in Canada)

I haven't had any trouble with the AN stands except I an no longer strong enough to install them without help - the spring is VERY strong. I do know what you mean though. My Triumph Trident spring has gotten weak and I recently went around a bumpy corner too fast, leaning too hard and the stand bounced, hit the ground and flipped my sideways. Fortunately, I didn't go down, but that bike is parked until I have time to fix that!

Got my new center stand kit and gaiters today from Andover , forgot the joy of attaching center stand spring , just not as powerful as I was last time I did that , like 14-15yrs ago .... anyway it’s fitted and I see why Cliffa welded on a better foot platform for pushing it up , had to put on a Ride boot , sneaker sole way to soft , went up very easy though .... gaiters tonight ...

I reinforced both my commando centre stands and made up better pivots for them as well. They are bullet proof now.

John, I know the road well.

Titahi Bay, Miramar and now Kerikeri.
I think the Mangamuka's up here in Northland could give the Rimutaka's a run for their money. But the Takaka Hill would beat all wouldn't you say.

My original broke in the standard spot, replaced with a new AN unit last year. T handle hook wrench is what you need for the spring.

When I fit the new motor this season I left the stand off altogether and installed bobbins for a paddock stand.

Need rest of my centre stand

Really nice looking bike.

Can you offer some insight as to the upside of the Hagon's over standard replacement shocks?
