Re: My swingarm bearings never leak oil – Something new to t

I am ordering another small lot of bearings. I will post when they arrive. Thanks to all for the good feedback.

I did another swingarm bearing install on my 1972 combat barn find which recently purchased. Went smoothly. Bearings are nice and tight. So both my Nortons are done. I hope everyone else is successful with their installs.

Well Ms Peel's RGM alloy swing arm install literally got hung up multiple times and ways today til just gave up and will have .0011" shaved off bushes OD and try again. Oh I put sand paper on dowel to buzz out alloy swing arm bores and hand sanded even longer to get bushes to just fit square and hold themselves but centered all tread rod a few times and then bench vice to press squarely so hard I couldn't turn its lever any more, all made bushes tip in bore to lock up by 1/4" in, leaving a smear of alloy on the bush when drifted back out. Alloy bores were too hot to handle and bushes collecting frost, so nothing for it but another delay with thought popping up why did I bother on such small advantage gained but in for a penny down for a pounding is theme of my Commando fix ups. I had no problem installing 3 prior factory bushes in 2 factory swing arms and this RGM prior, so not like I should know how by now. No rules apply to one in a row custom fitting I guess. I predicted this hang up so not a surprised and not complaining about the nice bushes. If not for the insane handling of Peel's sloppy tri-links there would be no reason to stick with it to me. Trixie inherited Peels old greaser swing arm so don't need oil-less bushes for it.

Sounds good, looking forward to getting a set when they arrive.

When you say tight, will the swingarm still drop under its own weight? Are you riding it much? Let us know how they hold up in 10K miles or so.

I work in right North Hills but have never been to that shop in Glenside.

Is this still a thing? How did the graphite bearing setup work pout long term?
any current source for these?
Cheers.

My swingarm bearings still don't leak oil. LOL. The graphite ones are still OK with a few thousand miles. The graphite ones work but are pretty expensive. I have some plain bearings now with grease grooves without the graphite that you just apply grease. PM me if you want to try the grease groove version. $40 for a set plus shipping.
