I rode it, didn't make much difference to the sound. Felt a very slight improvement on the willingness to rev over 3k still poor under this, often feels like it's running on one.

Open pipes shortly...

Service and remap... I've had an email to say that the factory were aware I was waiting....

I’m from further north but emigrated towards the south... so have both passports.

When I were a lad, posh southerners used gaskets... posh northerners used used corn flakes boxes... middle class northerners ate the boxes.... working class northerners dreamed of ‘em....

I honestly don't know where to begin. OK welcome . You have a 2017 Euro 4 MK2 with ABS , that means you have the newer OMEX.
Is this correct ? ( Euro 4 MK2 with ABS ) . This machine is a dual seat so is sprung for 2 up. Will you ride 2 up ? If so , keep the springs and reduce the compression and rebound settings for lowest setting to start with for 1 up riding. Look at the O2 sensor threads and idle problem solved threads for more information. You may benefit from the O2 sensor eliminator resistor plugs . This will help with low speed running by taking OUT the O2 sensor effect on the fueling at low speed and idle . Some advocate the removal of the IAM and blocking the idle passage between the throttle body throats . I do not have a Euro 4 machine , but many here do.
Hi TonyA, thanks for the above, I'm going to reply about my trouble in detail soon, (i still done have my bike running) I'm still unfamiliar with a lot of the terms you have noted above IAM? and "eliminator resistor plugs" and "Idle Passage" my bike is 2018 and same as above, I've since bought all new BOSCH Coil, temp sensor, BOSCH relays, TPC, Bosch Cam sensor, and Iridium plugs?
as I've noted before I'm having trouble with the bike throttling from idle, it idles fine, any throttle and it dies. I've also just ordered a yamaha Map sensor.- 1WS-82380-00 apparently these are the best replacements.
I'll let you know how i get on.

So what is the effect - it is sitting there happily idling and you slowly apply a bit of throttle. Does it splutter or the revs pick up at all or does it immediately die?

it immediately dies, but if you punch the throttle hard, it will rev high? happily idling, any throttle and stops. if you very very slowly turn the throttle it picks up to about 3500 revs.
bit of slatter and a small pop when trying to very slowly rise. I'm now assuming the air sensor or pressure sensor is stuffed?

I'll try and and set up and account here so i can post images and small video perhaps.

Any decent motor factor worth its salt will carry large sheets of gasket material in various thicknesses - well at least the one I was parts buyer did

I'd be looking at the throttle potentiometer (TPS-throttle position sensor) as well. Besides the MAP sensor, it's one of the key ways the ECU 'knows' you are opening the throttle and applies timing. If it see's no signal, the engine will be trying to go faster with the timing set to pretty much static timing for idle. Finding a unit quickly might be tricky, BUT I'd check the connection and wires for anything obvious.

Hi All,

Back on the road after 7 weeks.

just thought i should follow up and finish of the extremely helpful thread. (also having joined)
Want to also thank all those that offered assistance with my throttle issue and also great advice on all the items that are best replaced.
just for the record, my bike is now running and going better than it ever has, the problem turned out to be the Air Pressure sensor, (that small $$$ bastard that was difficult to change)
with advice i changed it to a Yamaha part # 1WS-82380-00 $237 Aus and now runs better than it ever did. (advice from an ex Norton employee on FB)
On advice i have also changed the temp sensor, Coil, relays, with Bosch parts, and iridium plugs.
I've also changed the break oil as that looked like molasses, and the clutch oil.
I've also ordered and received but not installed new cush rubbers for the rear sprocket.
i think the only other item I'm considering is changing the oil as that has been in the bike from new 2018, but only done 140k's. apparently this isn't an easy process?
Just wanted to thanks you all again for the input and advise. hopefully i can have some trouble free riding for a while.

This is great news! Yes the pressure sensor was one item which Norton admitted to having problems with. Thank you for contributing the part number.

Oil change is no big deal at all. Just read the manuals and make sure that you have a good strong sump plug key. I don't take the exhaust off, just rinse it all down afterwards. I bought a heavy duty key set after faffing around with one which was just not strong enough.

The engine and gearbox oil are separate. I use a fully synth ester based engine oil and a synthetic gearbox oil which MUST be suitable for a wet clutch.

Great to hear and thanks for sharing the Yamaha part number.

That's really good news. No hesitation and pulls cleanly throughout the rev range?

Guys!! I have some great news....

After I read P-rogers's last post I thought I would try changing the sensor on my bike. His bike is the same model and of very similar age displaying similar symptoms, it had to worth a try.

I decide to be thrifty by a used MAP Yamaha sensor 1WS-82380-00, figuring if the Yamaha wasn't scrapped because it didn't run properly the MAP sensor should be good... I found one on EBay from a 2017 Yamaha XSR700 £23 posted..

I fitted it and I was so pleased with the result! Totally change my bike, just like P-rogers's. It starts well and idles, initially at 1.5 the drop to 1.2 when warm (it did that anyway). It revs well through the lower rev range which I had issues with all the way up to my current limit of 4.5 and slightly beyond.... I can overtake now without fearing for my life! So so much better. It still stalls at the first couple of junctions but when warmed up it seems fine.. it's now a rideable machine. I am back in love with it.. :)

Just an slightly annoying vibration about 4 to 4.5..

Here are my plugs now, remember how black they were before..

Thanks to everyone for their help, it's very much appreciated.

Vernon 240 You were correct.

Glad you got it sorted chap

There was a tsb regarding this. Basically if your euro4 bike is an early one, it would have have had the cheap copy map sensor. Later bikes ran a genuine Yamaha map sensor, which cured a lot of problems. Easy to identify as the Yamaha map has a green square on it. Very late on they also switched from the shite FAE head temp sender to a specifically made Jumo sender unit... which again improved things. Unfortunately Norton have told Jumo under no circumstances are they to sell this sensor directly. As Norton continue to fob off with excuses, I gave up trying to buy a Jumo off them recently, so sourced a Bosch head temp sender for one of my customers.... did the job and he rode home very happy. So we may struggle for parts, but there's often a way around it.
