Must be the accent, right Vinny? :D

I think you mean "struth"
As in struth Ruth, where's ya front tooth?

Most popular female name in Oz?
Bula.

Or is that a female American motorcycle?

As I mostly ride Commando I both carry tools to help those not so equipped and so also notice I have to wait long to get a someone checking on me or a ride out of there, often while walking along side of road like ordinary hitch hiker. On a whim I picked up a shaggy looking hitch hiker that turned out to be Mennonite man on his way to a retreat. He's was like me refusing to cowtow to Govt authority over our creator, so he explained how he got out of the last no DL ticket by plunking down some old nasty green truck tire foam on the count room table then cross examined the trooper if he'd checked for tire air pressure or color of valve stem caps. Surprised cop said no of course not. Then the Mennonite read the charging statue out which specifically listed pneumatic tires to qualify for STATE regulation. So STATE dissmissed charge as undetermined jurisdiction to apply. Made headlines at set interesting precedent with STATE actually following its own statutes and color of law. Oh yeah the many rescue-new friend rides I get on back gives me further firm opinion even a two up Goldwing ain't as smooth and flowing as ordinary Commando. Of course dogs being man's best friend, got licked up friendly by some of them in PU beds. i mostly don't wave back any more, maybe I'll mimic semi horn or train tugging tooting motion with L hand but usually just a nod. Otherwise more often than not locals and I wave in cages on hwys but for the gal folk of course. Rode in rain yesterday so did wave back at couple of guys on dual purpose thumpers out in it too an about as messy muddy cycles kindred spirits. Was actually ok to feel the cool-ness in the joint as saddle filled up with water.

Hmm, I don't think we have any Mennonites in Oz , that I know of or certainly that I know.
Picking up hitch hikers (good looking ones) in NSW Oz pretty much ended in Sept 71 when helmet laws came in, unless you carried a spare one on your bike (helmet) I mean. The rot had begun and the fun was ending.

Guys on motorbikes still nod or sometimes waive to each other but not nearly as much as once before. More guys in cars than bikes waive at me on the Commando. And I'm not even gay!! Sadly, many old Brit riders are now in cars and the new riders must think I'm on some sort of noisy two wheeled tractor coming down the road. But not all. Some will give you a knowing grin. Maybe they are gay? But I don't think so. Probably their dad has a Brit in the shed.

Speaking of tractors hobot, if yours breaks down, a combat will pull a plough all day, even in water logged soil.
I tried it on the farm. Sold the tractor, didn't need it anymore!

Ozark's Dixieland is pretty much paradise so about *no one waits long* to get attended too and pretty polite know how well armed so commonly. I've plowed ground and under brush with both my Combats as well as tractoring heavy loads up steeps lugging and chugging just short of damage level low oil flow speed, so of course wished I was on a MkIII that was made for it. Off my break so taking the cage in as modern is ok for errands in good condition but not that much a holiday each ride like a Commando i'd run into the ground long as water crossings not to high nor much ice.

Yes, for farm work the MkIII excels. The rear swing arm handles high twisting torque loads and that neutral light is very handy when you are up to your neck in bullshit and can't even see the gear change, let alone feel it. And the low down torque is trumps.

Two opportunities in there for you hobot.

I will be most interested to compare the new MkIII with engine mods re torque and power band.
I wish I still had my combat to compare to as well.

So if you come across an RH10 head out in the Ozark paddocks. Please let me know.
If anyone is still reading this, there are two 850 heads made in Australia sitting in a Brisbane bike shop, $2675 each.
The man said they were designed for maximum performance. But the man didn't know what an RH10 or RH4 head was.
Didn't seem to want to know either. So I have no idea what they are or intended to be. I've never heard of an Australian made Norton 850 head.

Has anyone else?

Sure, That would be the Fullauto head. Porting designed by me and commissioned by Ken Cockram of Fullauto Technologies. Definitely the best head available for a Norton. Jim

Thank you Jim
It amazes me the shop chap couldn't tell me anything about them. I was beginning to think they might be some Chinese imitation.
So Jim, bought as is, they would be a straight bolt on to the MkIII?
No further work required?
Matched to a 2S cam or similar would be okay?

Phil

this thread cracked me up, I was laughing out loud and a couple of soldiers here in the USO looked at me as if I were crazy (maybe I am, I log on to this forum right?)

I was laughing out loud too until 85 yr old Mary from next door came in at 2am and beat me to a pulp.
Said she can't stand Peter, Paul and Mary being played at 1000dcb's at that hour of the morning.

Had to take her for a ride on the Norton to calm her down!!
Only got 23 speeding fines.
That's pretty good for me.
Mary said it was a crap ride. Not fast enough.

The Fullauto head is bare so you need to add in valves (Kibblewhite) new collets and perhaps the spring kit with titanium retainers.
If your existing rockers, spindles and covers are good they could be swapped over.
If not you are looking at well over $3000 plus labour.

If I walked into a retailers who was selling that head (Fullauto) and they had no idea what a RH4 or RH10 head was I would shop elsewhere.
You might give some leeway with the RH1 since that head is not stamped.
A mine field for newbies and the dreaded 'born again British biker.

Thanks Time (I don't know what else to call you - so not being smart)
After Jim's post this morning I phoned the shop again and this time the owner had more time to talk.
Yes they are Fullauto's. I had no idea they were Australian built so he filled me in a bit.

So I bought one over the phone and will ship it to the USA for valve fitting etc.
I note your advice re valves etc. same as Jim advises.
I had a nasty feeling this project would be expensive.
But heh, you only live once.
When someone finds out what I have done, I have a bad feeling that won't be very long.

Cheers
Phil

Re "born again brit biker" I wouldn't call me that. I've had a continual line of Nortons mixed in-between and during with a bunch of Japanese bikes and four Beemers. I hated selling the Kawasaki but the home needed central heating. It gets bloody cold down here in winter and my days of chopping and splitting fire wood are over.

But I have never been involved with performance improvements except way back with the Dominator. Fitted twin monoblocs and megaphones. Sounded very loud and exciting but actually went slower. So much for that.

So this new area for me I find fascinating (and very expensive).
And a lot of fun. I've learnt more from this forum about Commandos than I ever knew.

hobot, is that Peel or Trixie? I hope it's not Peel with the wrong brake fitted?

I must be wrong, but it looks like a Triumph to me. Look at the tank side.

Lord, I hope I'm wrong.

Lord, I hope I'm wrong.

I assumed that was Wes on the Triumph. I can tell when a bike is a Triumph, not a Norton.
But I figured hobot was on the Norton (pre combat) with the helmet on.

Where is hobot?
We need some answers!
