what with some owner’s desire to drain down fuel tanks, has anyone found a modern fuel tap that is:
ethanol proof, and has quickly detachable outlet pipe to facilitate draining, and has a reserve option, and fits the standard Commando tank?

Like these yer mean ?

They are available elsewhere, and in a ‘straight’ variant. But there are lots of copies out there that may, or may not, be any good.

I bought mine from Matt over 10 years ago and they’re still fine.

The hose is a push fit, so as quickly detachable as you get.

As Fast Eddie says these are very good. I've fitted them to a couple of bikes & they work really well. Also, if you would prefer them to have the 1/4" BSP thread on the outlet side, take a look on the Eurotrash Jambalaya website. He sells both types.

I like those sold by Pingel, but you will have to run a BSPP die over the 1/4" NPT to fit one to a Brit tank bung. You also need deep pockets. But you will not have fuel starvation.

I got a pair of the "custom billet" petcocks from the Bonneville shop (TBS-065). These are also available from various smaller Norton shops. They are pricey (and it keeps rising) but I have tried most everything else and these don't leak. I've had them two or three years.
I drain my tank and carb bowls every winter and these petcocks replace the originals without molesting threads or changing fittings. They come with standpipes like the original main taps, but they are removable (light press fit) to easily make a reserve petcock.
