Merlin DOHC Progress (2018)

Morning Wasp wasp
Progress has been very slow over the last few months, I got delayed waiting for some 13mm valve shims to arrive and then made some new valve spring collars to accept the said shims. All this is so i can use valve buckets from a 2007 Triumph triple which are much lighter than the Hillman Imp buckets Merlin used. The latest work ive done on Suzi is installing an under G/box oil system (routing the oil pipes under the g/box

The latest work ive done on Suzi is installing an under G/box oil system (routing the oil pipes under the g/box) making for a much neater, cleaner look. The oil tank needs work doing though, bottom cracked at the mounting.

Also, I got a phone call from an old friend months ago. He told me a couple he knows were asking for information on some workshop equipment her dad had got (The ladies farther had died and they were having to dispose of his effects) My friend gave them my number, they got in touch and asked me to value said equipment. The surprising thing is, it was only a mile away from me. I had a most enjoyable afternoon discovering what treasures her dad had acquired and made, so much so i bought a lot of it (He had made a beautiful job of a Quorn universal tool and cutter grinder) complete with all the accessories. All sat in there own beautiful hardwood cabinets. I wish i had met her farther when he was alive, i'm sure we would have got on.

Getting all this stuff has meant a rearrangement of Mitzi and Suzi's bedroom to get the Myford lathe in there (it is still on casters in the kitchen!) Another thing that i do is putting on race events, Not at Cadwell park mind. This is a huge four lane slot car track (Scalextric) that i built to use at our local Noc branch meetings a couple or three times a year. The last time we had a race day a member from the Yorkshire branch came over, liked it so much the Yorkshire branch asked me to take the track over to put on a race day for them. It all keeps me busy in retirement!

Sorry for not replying to your email, i did see it in my inbox and i think i must have deleted it by mistake.
Slow progress on Suzi, Got the oil tank repaired (had to plate the bottom) and done various little jobs that all add up to looking like nothings happened but it has. The Mk2 Amal carbs (that came with the engine) have needed work. In one of them, the little core plug that caps off the cold start plunger port had corroded that much it was loose in the carb body, both cold start plungers were badly worn and the rubber slug in the plungers was hard, deformed and the seat in the carb body wasn't in good condition either. New cable cold start plungers bought, a new little core plug made from aluminium made and fitted and the seats lapped flat in both carbs That was half a days work and it looks like ive done nowt!
