I have a 2016 SF.
I know people say this is crazy. But I want a megaphone exhaust on my commando. I know I know it's not EPA legal and I know it's loud. But I want one and if the domiracer can have a tune for it can I use the same tune and if I were to get the foot control frames would it be a direct bolt on.
Thanks guys.

lol, trust me you don't know how loud the megaphones really are - I've heard them in the flesh and they're insanely loud to the point the law would be all over you. However if you're talking about a megaphone style exhaust like I have on my bike that looks the part but won't set of car alarms at 100 paces go for it!

But I doubt it would be a direct bolt on as the Dominator/Domiracer have a different frame. The engine map would probably be ok ish, the airbox is different from the Commando as well. My custom megaphone system actually cost less than buying a set of megaphones from the factory (although my bike came with a set of factory megaphones anyway). So I'd suggest just taking the bike to a competent fabricator with some pictures of what you're after.

Hello Voodooo , Are the Motad shorties not loud enough for you ? Living in rural Michigan you can get away with the open megaphones . Besides , a lot of the Harley guys run open pipes and nobody blinks . Go for it !

Megaphones are much worse than open pipes though!

Remember as a kid... shouting through a cardboard tube vs shouting through a megaphone shaped cone!

Its the same, just by a factor of a few hundred!!

Voodooo, I used a Cone Engineering brushed stainless steel short megaphone on my Special. It's actually a 2.5" straight thru internally with stainless packing, but megaphone shaped on the outside.
It definitely cuts the sound a lot as compared to straight pipes, but it is still pretty wicked on that bike.
I like that it is fairly quiet when cruising and raunchy sounding when accelerating hard.
There isn't any megaphonitis, because it's a straight pipe as far as the engine is concerned.

I could put a photo of it up if you are interested.

Warning, not a 961.

I never heard the Motad shorties yet. But I have heard the megaphones. You are correct I do live in rural Michigan and Harley guys also have loud bikes, although not as loud as the megaphones.
My car is also extremely loud when the active mufflers are in sport mode. (Which is what setting I use all the time)
Here's a few clips of my car when it was stock in February 2016 and on some dyno pulls. Stock the car makes 526 crank hp and at the wheels made 454 hp. With the long tune headers, catless X pipe and stock mufflers with a tune and E85 gas I'm at 633 crank hp and at the wheel I'm at 547 hp. The engine used in the 2015-2017 mustang Shelby GT350 is a naturally aspirated 5.2 and uses a FLATPLANE crank, like a Ferrari. Except Ferrari said ford could never make a flatplane crank engine over 4.8L. Ford proved them wrong. This thing revs and pulls hard all the way to 8250 rpm. This Is not a drag race car and it's engineered purpose was for road racing.

If you listen closely to the first video you can hear my car from over a mile away. Keep in mind this is not at 8250rpm. I was only at 5500 rpm.

Hey Glen!
Id love to hear it!

I've heard and rode all OEM Norton Exhaust systems. The MegaPhones are too loud. Standing around the bike, you need full on ear protection. Your chest vibrates. In a garage with the bike running your whole body vibrates from the bass of the exhaust. I honestly do not know why anyone would attempt them on the street with the idea that they would not either get some heat from the police or really annoy their neighbors. You can hear them for miles away. They are very loud. I rode around a sub-urban block (big block) and my dad said he could hear me the entire trip. On my MOTAD SHORTIES you could only hear to the end of the road until I turned.

However, other than the airbox being different for the mapping, if you have the foot control frames it WILL work. John Snead was running 092 on his race bike that had open exhaust. 6500092_PR3_0116 is the domi megaphone map John was using before he developed his own.

I say try it, it looks cool for sure. Guaranteed to make you smile when you hear it (feel it) running   AND..... if you don't mind being harassed by police and neighbors, go for it.

I made a manual on installing them so that will help. I wish I had my manual when installing them. They do not come with instructions.

What you are saying is that I can use the domiracer/ dominator foot control frames on the commando frame and the pipes would bolt up?
I also like the looks of the megaphone exhaust better. If I don't like them I can always remove them or put baffles in them.
I feel like I have to try this. I'm a ex tool and die maker and have a full machine shop so making them fit wouldn't be a problem as far as fabrication goes. But I don't feel like getting to the point that I have to cut or weld anything on my new bike. If all it takes is replacing the foot control frames, I'm good with that!

Thank you Richard!
I'll check out your manual today. By the way, how do I donate to your hard work? Is there a link?
Thanks Scott!

Thanks Scott. PM sent. I will add you to my email list so you get all the MANUALS in HIGH RES as they are released, PLUS all the one I've already made.

People like you and everyone on this board really helps a guy like me with a young family put aside time to make these manuals. I feel the donations help me justify my time, and 961 owners are very generous so a HUGE thanks to everyone. And in return, the donations help all 961 owners. It really makes me feel good knowing I am helping people.

Sure, here,s a link to give you an idea of sound levels.
What is nice about the Cone engineering (reverse cone, straight thru) megaphone is that it has two sound modes, reasonably quiet for cruising or sneaking around a residential neighbourhood and a real snarl when you want it. The bit at the end is about half throttle, the max used during break-in. Full throttle doesn't change the sound much but it does make you hang on tighter.

I wonder if anyone has tried these Cone pipes on a 961?
Made in USA, high quality, stainless steel and quite reasonably priced. This particular bike has a big single for a two 2" headers into a collector, then into the 2 1/2" (ID of the internal straight thru) megaphone. T here are smaller sizes available for twin pipe use.

Link to Cone Engineering muffler price list, a good value at $100-150 ea. I seem to recall that John Snead used these on his race 961?
