Naughty . NO air cleaner . tsk tsk .

If you were on gravel roads in summer you might get 25.000 mile bore life .

Was a picture of a fancy filtron or something filter here the other day , also a ram flow.

The real AMAL long velocity stacks in a coustom air box , with a coustom large oil tank
wouldnt be a bad idea. I think the bleed holes in the bottom of the carb intake somehow
are fed xternal or is it internal air . Pressure differential to intake can cause bothers .

Ah wll , at least somebody's enjoying themselves , anyhow . :D :P

mutter . mutter . mutter . YES , very nice motorcycle .
but . . .

try and find a picture of the Works 750 Triumph / BSA s , and Nortons . PLEASE . :D

There were eccentric ring mount long stacks , so they screwed on to the carb thread .
AND the bellmouth flowed directly ( and Scientificcally :? ) direct into the carb bore ,
RATHER than the carb mouth .

Were said to be worth a few H.P. ( several ) , 3 bleed holes in mouth are fed through
something to somewhere , which is said to be essential to this arrangement . :P

Now , make a point of doing this , and youll be set up to out accellerate the whizz bangs
out of all those high faluteing corners . And maintain the air of superiority , essential to
all fair dinkum Norton Pilotes .  :|

Velocity stacks, yes they look pretty & meaningful.
Pity the motor don't run as well with them on, runs better when they fall off, which they do.
Standard air filter works good.
Jointing compound works well instead of loctite.

I've never had problems with parts falling off. Just parts vibrating, getting stress fractures in them and then I take them off, mostly the S exhaust system. But that's my problem and I can afford to replace them now.

Theyre worth 5 Hp .

Had a 51 A10 once , everything unnessessary had fallen off long before I got it .
it had 10:1 pistons .A baffle came loose , knocked out easy.took most of a day
to get the other one out . Gutless wonder but still did 16.9 @ 81 mph 1/4 mile sprint .

Kiliometer timed is what you need , anything unreliable will break before its got there .

Meet my babe.

It may be the angle of the photograph, but that gearbox looks like it's canted back in the cradle to its limit. Looks like a new primary chain may be in order.

got my ram pipes and they do not fit.\ there is not enough space for both!
unbelievable Amal do not mention this on their website. Got in contact with them to (try) change with something appropriate.

ah, was about to forget: fitted a reed valve (mixes xs) seems to be working fine (transparent pipe. so I can see what's going on..). Did you guys fix the valve to something or did you leave it loose? (will post pictures tomorrow)

Hi folks,
recent developments:
-no driving recently-I am in the Uk the bike in Italy. difficult to ride it this way.
-Sent back the amal vel stacks as they did not fit (hopefully i'll get my money back...).
-Ordered the Lansdowne dampers from John -should get them in a bit.
-Ordered an alloy Norvil tank from Bartel. Delivery time 30 weeks!!!!?!?!?

Tricky question for the Brits:
-the bike is now in Italy sporting a good looking UK plate. and I was planning to keep the orig plate BUT
-Italian insurance company to not insure foreign registered vehicles.
-UK insurance co only insure vehicles with a valid MOT.
-My MOT is over in October.

any hints?
-do you guys know anyone who would do an MOT without actually seeing the bike... (well I guess not... but checking..)
-do you know insurance co who would insure a bike with no MOT?
-any other suggestion?

Actually, another question. given I will soon work on the lansdowne dampers what are the parts that are a "must change" while the front forks are apart? I certainly will change the springs that are done.

I would say seals and upper bushings. If you go with new springs, make sure they are stock spec. Maybe fresh orings on the drain plugs.

Who have you tried?

It shouldn't be difficult to get insurance on a vehicle that doesn't have a current MOT.

I am with Footman James. I need to make sure I am actually covered in case of accident even if I have no valid MOT... I called them up and they said with no MOT there is no coverage...

You should contact them again, because your insurance should cover you for third party risks regardless of whether the vehicle has a current MOT or not.

Thanks LAB, will double check with them. and also call someone else (carolenash?) and see if this is the case with them too.
Also having some trouble as apparently they (footmanjames) do not cover bikes abroad for longer than 35 days at a time (but they allow unlimited trips abroad. so not quite clear what that actually means...).

If you ride/drive directly to an MOT station for a pre-booked MOT test then your insurance should cover you?

If you are bringing a British registered vehicle with an expired MOT back to the UK then the situation may well be different.

well this is a harder case. I'm planning to use the bike permanently in Italy (not bringing it back to the UK) while keeping the original UK registration, (which is fine as I am a UK resident) so what I should understand is if some insurance company will cover me even though I will end up not having a valid MOT ever again.

Wouldn't it be easier/simpler to re-register the bike in Italy?

Are you a member of the AA or RAC, as it might be worth contacting them for advice?
