Manx Norton special

the seller has appeared at Kempton not long ago with a 350,mostly there, motor and various other Manx parts. I don’t know where these components come from as he seems a new chap on the scene.

the Kempton one I mentioned is apparently a replica of the original design, and which probably never got finished for the road/track.

I suspect the one at kemton was one of the two I looked at last year when the owner had died
I bought my rocket 3 special from his son

The big tube frame at Kempton with other manx parts and a sort of 350 manx engine (a real piece of rubbish - mix of home made alloy cases and cambox) was all with me at one time.

I was asked to sell that frame along with some of the other bits as mentioned above. I decided not to continue my business relationship with the owner and returned all this stuff. The chap who is now selling it or sold it is well meaning but isn't very knowledgeable but this will change in time. That frame however is replica (and not exact) and the 350 engine is mostly scrap, he was also selling various bits which all came from the same source namely the estate of Roger Bowring. Some of this stuff is good, some replica and some not so good.

The second chassis spoken of in the above posts is an original, forks, clip-ons, engine plates and other bits were all purchased by Roger Bowring from Geoff Duke late 1961, Its was used by Geoff Duke in Dutch TT and several other race - I now own this frame package. Duke retired from racing in C1959 and hence the sale, the chassis was on display in Dukes window at the TT in 1961. Before this chassis was purchased by Roger he purchased a similar chassis from Duke with Reynolds fork but with the smaller front down tube and oil tank, this chassis originally had an ex Les Graham Velocette KTT Mk8 engine fitted and again was raced by Duke - I believe i know where this frame is. So at one time Roger Bowring owned both Duke frames and raced both from around 1961 with both Manx and Triumph engines fitted.

Progress on my frame is slow, i'm still in the parts collecting stage but I'm getting closer to assembly. I have found an early 7r front wheel as fitted originally and a matching rim for my rear Manx hub. Gearbox is rebuilt and the frame checked over and is ready for paint. I've also found a rare undamaged Peel fairing of the type used originally (pre mountain mile). Hope to have a running bike by March 25!
