Is this a '75 (Mk3)?

As MkIII production started at engine number 325000, it would be unlikely that hayabusaman0's 850 is a MkIII model, as it is serial 320825 (see p1), so is probably a MkII or IIA?

Yes, I was thinking MkIIA until he said he didn't have a central fixing bolt for the swingarm spindle. (or was he actually referring to the long thin bolt holding the end plugs?) Curious, indeed.

hayabusaman0 -
Can you possibly post a picture or two?

2 of the "buttons" are slightly proud,I will remove the lot and check for debris etc underneath, I am still not sure whether the spindle spacer is correct as the disc is not central to the caliper.
I thought I might add a bit about the history of the machine; the bike was registered in 1990, declared manufactured in 1974, my brother bought it from Bikerama, Hornsey, U.K. in 1991. It had a lot of receipts with it for crank balancing etc, the speedo reading is 17k, I suspect that is genuine. I also have a bill for £3000.00 from M. Hemmings for work carried out, I guess he built it as it does sport Hemmings Norvil badges, points cover and head steady. In 17 years he only put about 2k on it just using it for Beezumph(UK. M/c club rally/trackday, I am a Trident owner) as he hasn't rode it for 3yrs & was intending to emigrate to Spain I offered to buy it as I thought it was too good to pass up, so I am just working thro' it a bit at a time & intend taking it to Beezumph as well as the triple

You have to be careful with the 'buttons' that retain the Norvil disc.

The dish shaped ring behind the disc actually acts as a spring and holds the disc against the buttons. The disc is not as free-floating as more recent types, more self-aligning. The problem is that in assembling the disc, one is effectively using the small socket screws to compress the spring and they have a tendency to pull the buttons down out of square.

I turned a fraction off of my spring because otherwise it was over-stressing the screws during assembly.

As I mentioned, my brake was a full Hemmings Norvil kit which I believe was a true copy of the originals, foibles and all so it may be that yours is similar.
