Loose pushrod ends

Like Peach, I’ve used 638. No issues.

I have also used it for rocker spindles that like to turn.
How can the rocker spindles turn? The retaining plates already keep them from turning. What am I missing here?

Could it be they are moving inward so the outer plates lose contact with the spindle slot.

A machined spacer in the heads spindle inner bore would most likely stop that migration.

The plates don’t always interface with the spindle notch as designed. Even with trying to bend the tabs out and piecing through bits I have for the best fitting ones. Sometimes the bore is a little loose after 50 years of heat cycles or improper removal by a PO. You’ve never caught a spindle turning?

You’re probably right as well. I do not have the knowledge or equipment to make a spacer. You’re hard pressed to find a real machinist anymore.

Got it. I've never had one do that, but I can picture it. I have found the occasional spindle that had a tight push fit when c old, and I expect it would be loose when hot, but nothing too serious.

I needed to make a pair of custom length pushrods for my Goldstar. There are several places that make pushrods, I used MANTON in the USA. Good service, good price. Excellent quality.
