Yes Ron, I was thinking of Bill Atkins. I've never met him but hope to sometime.

Hey Squarehead, we have a bunch of Norton riders in the Tipp/Troy area. 2-1/2 hours north of Cinci? Does that put you in the Lima/Findlay area?

Dave

I am in Upper Sandusky (nowhere near Sandusky!). 45 minutes east of Lima, 40 minutes southeast of Findlay, 20 minutes north of Marion, 45 minutes west of Mansfield.

Hey SquareHead, Pat L. here. I don't claim to be a pro or an expert, but these Nortons are not rocket science. YOU can do it yourself, and increase your self-confidence in workin' on it. :D Bring yer gearbox up to Norwalk and I can step ya thru. Always happy to help a fellow Nortoneer.

I've read of folks rebuilding the gearbox in the bike; I personally wouldn't even consider doing it that way. My hats off to those that have though ...

Thanks, again, everyone for the helpful replies. I am going to be taking my bike to Bill Atkins, Milford, OH, tomorrow morning. I talked with him at length about bikes, cars, racing, etc. Seems like a great guy! I will report back when he is done.

Thanks!

Chris

Re: Looking for Norton or British MC shop in Ohio, MI, PA, I

Just wanted to post a follow up. I ended up contacting Bill Atkins in Milford, OH. We talked about my issues and I ended up bringing my bike down to him, about a 3 hour drive. Very, very nice guy. Extremely knowledgeable. Has a nice little shop at his house with some pretty cool bikes and car.

Turns out the lay shaft completely broke and took a couple of gears with it. Not a good thing, but Bill had it back and running within a week or so. He also found a few other items to address on the bike.

So, thank you to all who suggested Bill. I have found a great mechanic and made a good friend, to boot. Very reasonable labor rate and he really knows Norton's. He also works on other bikes. Has a '66 BSA Lightning in the shop for some carb work.

Ron L., Bill spoke very highly of you. Maybe I will get the chance to meet you someday.

Thanks again!!
