Look what I've got

Look what I've got

It is indeed No 1. Want to know something else ?

No 4 is in the USA as we speak.

Very nice, Could we see a picture of the ports? I bet Matt is a bit busy. Is this the design that's going to work with the fuel injection? I guess it's time to start setting up the wife!

Tom Petty says it best "Oh my-my, oh hell yes, honey put on that party dress"

Ok, here goes. Specs as follows,

6061-T6 aluminium
All standard Norton parts will bolt up.
Port design by Jim Comstock. To be modified further before production starts, This is very simple because the ports use a separate core.
No porosity.
No leaks.
Hooray !!!!!
And oh so pretty in the flesh. Mine will be fitted at the end of the week and I'm looking forward to riding it.

Oh yes, and manufactured for me by Harrop Engineering in Melbourne Australia, a very professional company. Don't bother contacting them for a head. The heads will only be available through Matt Rambow at Colorado Norton Works in the USA, Mick Hemmings in the UK and Ben at British Imports in Perth, Western Australia for Australian and New Zealand customers. For the rest of the world, take your pick from these quality distributors. Dealers can also contact these people for generous pricing.

No, they will never be cheaper. I sank a LOT of money into this project, as you can imagine.

Yes, Dave, but the logo will be moved to the top of the head near the head steady where it is not as visible and the serial number will be stamped on the side of one of the rocker boxes. The two pads on the fins will disappear.

I think those are good locations.

We know they will be expensive, but is there a MSRP on these yet?

No offence meant, but I find it comical to see guys in small shops making a better product than the Norton factory could in over 30 years of evolution.

Depending on the vagaries of currency fluctuations when the first orders arrive, Matt is talking about US$1595.00 at this stage. Unless the US dollar takes a tumble, that should be about right. However, things may change. Talk to him and reserve your serial #. 1-40 for 850s and 41 to 50 for 750 heads.
Jean, I'm just the little guy paying for it all. The real work was done by a company called Harrop Engineering, who are definitely not backyarders or a small firm. They would probably be the best company of their type in Australia, with decades of experience in automotive design, casting and machining. As soon as I walked through their doors, I knew that they would be the ones doing the heads.
They really are that good. Things haven't been all plain sailing though. The heads are very complex from a manufacturing point of view and they have done well to come up with this product. I just wonder how the hell Norton made them in the old days. No wonder no two dimensions were the same from head to head. They will be now, however.

Oh, yes, combustion chambers are CNC machined and therefore equal volumes and there's a bit more meat around the exhaust threads in case we ever decide to use inserts.

No comical at all. Production techniques and better materials, and computer-assisted design in the last 30 years make a huge difference.

Considering that you can make a CNC device for under $500 and free CAD software nowadays... "anyone" can produce parts.

The CNC maching part is the EASY part!

Casting that complex structure with those fins and valvegear pockets is simply mind-boggling.

I suppose the new heads are also available by Holland Norton Works (CNW products dealer in Holland)?!
