Left hand side cover mounting, is there supposed to be a spacer between the front mounting tab and the frame ?.

Dang I don't know, never saw one and suspect it'd make a tedious task flat impossible. All the cushion and slack take up occurs on the butt end pegs/cushions.

I think you've got the 69/70 style f/g panels? If so, yes there is a spacer, looks to be about 1/2", but if you want I can measure it.

It measures right at .6" or right around 15mm.

I use a thick rubber washer to help isolate vibes and reduce the potential for cracking the sidecover, a very common malady.

With the spacer, as advised by Dave, the seat is rubbing on the top of the LH cover ( and appears to compress the top forward corner of the cover when my well fed rotunda is seated ).

The 69/70 seat pan bends real easily. I cut some 3/8" rubber hose in pieces and glued it on top of the frame where the bumpers under the seat pan hit the frame. That spaced it up a bit and I don't seem to have the problem with the seat hitting the top of the panel any more. At least it helped so far, as long as I don't get past 180lb which is still too much. Do you have the original seat or is it a later one? That may make a difference. The ears on my seat don't fully go onto the top shock bolts either.

By the looks of things there Dog T, you have elected not to use the spring lock, am I correct? That lock nut will make the cover more rigid and therefore loosen the rivets on the other end of the bracket, no? Just curious....... :)

My 69 had no Dzus fastener on the left side, just the right. I'm aware that some may have, and I think from 71 on it was, but am not sure. I only replaced a standard nut with the nylock on the left. there are no rivets on the other end, just rubber donuts that mount on protrusions just like the right side.

No.

The left hand side 'S' and 1970 Roadster panels were fixed with a bolt and spacer, as it was right side panel which was removed for battery and oil tank access, so the Dzus fastener held the right hand side panel on those models.
