The rose joint design of head steady (like Dave Taylor, and cNw) is generally accepted to REDUCE vibration as they allow unhindered up and down movement. They also aid handling as they allow zero side to side movement.

Unless it was somehow fitted incorrectly, I really can’t see how this could have caused ignition unit destroying vibes.

If ignition timing moves because of movement of the trigger, it usually goes retarded. Always keep pressure on the kickstart lever. If you bounce off it, the slight gap increases the bite. If it kicks back while you have pressure on the lever, you can usually just hold it, without getting hurt.
