Finally warmed up enough for me to take a very short test ride. Basically went around a 5 block rectangle.
I did two things at once because my plan was to use both together. Result is mellow power at low RPM (too much gear maybe), but responds well to more throttle. No lean stumbles or overly rich flabby spots. No real clue what my RPMs were when twisting the throttle, but probably not over 5K in 1st and a short time in 2nd less than 3500 RPM. The bike is geared taller than stock, so I seldom get out of 2nd on mixed residential/business streets.
The exhaust D-port inserts did make a change. More testing and investigation required. Not sure what the 2 additional degrees of cam timing did. It is very ridable as is, but I know I can get more response down low in the RPMs. Plugs were dry although dark from my previously farting around in the garage blipping the throttle with the accelerator pump spitting down the throats of the intake manifolds. A 90 mph 4 mile run up the Hwy would clean the plugs up.
As mentioned, some tuning and or head work may be required with the D-port inserts. I'm going to attempt to get what I expect with some minor carburetor tuning. If I have what I think is success, I'll mention it.
My version of success may not match anyone else's, so get the parts, try them out, and see what you think.
