ISO Rubbers and Winter lay up

Winter tyre technology for car tyres these days is amazing. Anyone who has ever driven with winter tyres, or even all weather tyres (ie everyone in Germany and Scandinavia and a handful of others) will know this.

Its not just about driving on snow, they grip better in cold temps even in the dry, and better in the wet, and of course on snow, frost, etc.

But I don’t think there’s been a serious attempt to do likewise for bikes has there?

When I was in college in Illinois my only transportation was a Triumph 500. When the roads had ice I rode in the snow on the shoulder. Dunlop K70s did fine in the snow. Of course, great care was required, especially in corners.
 
Im sure dispatch riders during wartimes had to contend with snow and ice. Bet they didn't have specialized winter tyres.
 
This might be a good spot to neutralize the weight to relax the iso rubbers during a storage period.

What we need is a rotisserie each month we could turn our bikes around to keep the isolastic centered. Come spring we could wet sump the engine oil back into the tank. Win Win all year round : )
 
I love this forum, as it provides not only invaluable information on perpetuating the enjoyment of obsolete motorcycles, it also provides valuable insight into the human psyche.

Today's lesson: Take away all of a man's worries, and you will give him the opportunity to entertain himself by inventing new things to worry about...

And through the miracles of social media, he will be able to locate others that will worry along with him!!

BTW - I have often thought that removing the bolt and spindle from the center of each isolastic would prolong their life indefinitely. But then I have always done the right thing and went back to drinking beer...

That’s not just motorbike forums, that’s deep in human nature.

Take away ANYONES main worries and you will find that it does NOT make them worry free, they just find the next things to worry about.

Like the school Mum at my girls school who wrote to the head mistress, and tried to drum up support for her campaign regarding school meals. Sounds ok right? Until I tell you that her outrage was because the school does not use certified organic ingredients in their meals… I kid you not.

Or, if you wanna get a tad more political, what about refugees who have had to flee for their lives from war torn countries… who, when safe and secure in their host country, then complain the free hotel isn‘t nice enough, or the free TV isn’t big enough…

Its as though people have an in built amount of ‘worry capacity’ and that capacity has to be used, so they sub consciously find enough problems to use up that capacity.

As is summed up succinctly in Yorkshire:

”There’s nowt so strange as folk”

This forum has sorted out which oil I should use, which tyres I should use, which clutch plates I should use to stop it slipping etc etc.... all sorted :)
but now Derek has caused me to worry if I'm drinking enough beer :(
