Interstate tank pin striping

not sure how much of this applies to the interstate, but here's a pic of my (original paint) 74 Mk2 roadster. from my very limited research, the stripes were hand painted by one or more painters. since hand painted, i would imagine there is no exact width, but would vary from tank to tank, from painter to painter. my best GUESS, striping between 5/64" and 1/8" (.08-.12) should be acceptable.

The Real reason for the hinge being moved to the rear co-incided with the time frame of banning stoopid fiberglass petrol tanks .
There are documented cases of collisions where the fiberglass tank would shatter , releasing petrol over hot exhaust pipes and the still firing spark plugs .
Toasty . At the same time of collision , the gas cap might / would open up from the shock and slop fuel TOWARDS the driver . More fun and games .
The move to steel tanks meant a collision would likely / hopefully result in a crumple , instead of a shatter . The cap may pop open too , but it would pop open away from spraying the motorcyclist , who already had enough things to worry about .
Ride safe , enjoy .
After reading this I realize how lucky I was to not get burned after being hit by a red light runner with my crumpled Mk IIa still running while I lay under it. Its been a few years, but I hope to get her going again soon with the help of this group.
