Will Boyers work with a capacitor? Modern batteries are pretty reliable.

Just go onto ebay and look for a big capacitor, I have ones as big as a soup can which are 50000 mf and with this fitted can start a Victor running a boyer.

My 850 was doing exactly what the article said, replaced the 2MC (it was the blue original) with a new capacitor from RS Components and bingo, great starting anytime even with a cheap battery. It only cost around £7 so yes you can get rid of it but it seems like a good idea to keep it when you can replace with new units.
