I'm tempted by the plethora of fuel tanks from the sub-continent advertised on flea-bay. Will anyone admit to having purchased one?? If so what was the experience and end result like?

Like most of us, it appears, I have been standing on the side-lines watching the apparent debacle with Mr.Singh, so is it all doom and gloom, or can somebody shed a ray of sunshine on the issue :?

You want the Taiwanese made EMGO tank, recently released, with a properly formed underside panel. The Indian made tanks I have reviewed have triggered all manner of gag reflex as a metal fabricator   . A patchwork of scraps underneath and horribly misshapen up top. JMWO YMMV

I got a pair of Indian-made sidecovers from Enfieldcounty_au and they are not the same shape as factory covers. I requested they not include the tool pocket on the drive side cover and they did anyway. Sent them pictures and proper dimensions. After a couple of weeks of E-mails back and forth and a failed attempt, they did refund part of the price, but their communication skills are awful and their products left a lot to be desired. They also managed to do the transaction outside Ebay, so there is no record of my purchase other than the Paypal accounting, and I can't even leave negative feedback or get any satisfaction there. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and work with them, but their business practices are as suspect as their product. Do business with them at your own risk. Even the Chinese do a better job of communication and customer service.

Don't buy an Indian tank. Get an Emgo.

I purchased an Indian tank, tempted by the eBay listings you describe. It is a complete and total piece of crap. Three hundred wasted dollars. I painted it, stuck some decals on, and it now sits as decoration on top of my beer fridge. That's all it is (barely) suitable for.

On the other hand, I have inspected several of the new Emgo reproductions. They are stamped from tooling, not hand made like the Indian tanks. They are every bit as good or better than the originals.

I've had recent experience with two of them. One Interstate, and one Roadster. With the Interstate the front stud distance was two narrow, meaning the tank mount holes needed to be elongated to make it fit and the filler neck is atrocious, wavy where the rubber filler cap seal sits ....and one stud was seeping fuel. Rubbish!
The Roadster tank left hand fueltap hole was crooked meaning when everything is mounted the fuel pipe touches the cylinder head fins!!.......oh yes and the filler neck is also atrocious. I did not buy the tanks! I bought the bikes.

Here is a chrome Roadster tank I got on E-Bay a few years back. Enfield County was the seller. Have not treated the inside or even used it. The front tank stud threaded holes are off a little and have a clearance concern at the rear inside of tank a little large which may rub on the main top tube. I had to do some grinding on the flip lid to allow it to open all the way. Top of neck where lid rubber comes in contact is uneven. Small chrome peal at bottom lip. Some ripples. No doubt an Indian tank. Unsure if I will even use it. Chalking it up as a not so wise purchase.

Thanks guys: this is pretty much as I expected. Unfortunately I'm after (sort of) an Interstate tank. Emgo doesn't make one and the others available new are pretty EXY. I guess I'll just have to haunt fleabay and the Club sites and hope I get lucky :)

I bought an Indian tank from partsparadise , and I think I got lucky, had no leakage or mounting problems and the tank is a pretty good roadster copy. However , having seen the Emgo version I must agree that it is far superior to any Indian tank I've seen and if I had to buy another tank it would be one of these.
By the way, if you stated your location, you might get guys in the same country offering you any needed parts.
