Indian made interstate tank

Just passing on an India tank story. We were building a slimline custom and purchased a large 5? gallon aluminum tank, vendor unknown. They drilled the single petcock hole directly over a crossbar so it required welding over the hole and moving the petcock location further rear ward. Next, the tank was not symmetrical side to side and required much fiddling to make it sit level. Many hours were spent making it work. Paint was good but bubbled with gas overflow.

You get what you pay for if you want quality made you got to pay the price so many have been caught out buying these Indian made tanks, would never buy a painted one from there as mostly they need to be rewelded from leaks to wrong position fuel tap holes, but if you are willing to fix these then buying cheap could work for you, but there are some good tank makers around but long waiting times and high prices but that's the price you pay for quality workmanship.

I had seen those alloy tanks on the TGA website but not really a fan of the monza flip cap style on the tank. I really want a stock looking interstate tank in the colour I want to paint it + the exchange rate & shipping with taxes at my end would make it uneconomic to buy from TGA anyway. Cheers.

100% agree that you get what you pay for but you need to be realistic on how much you can spend on an extra fuel tank. An Indian made interstate tank would not be my first choice but as original interstate tanks aren't available easily you need to explore other options. I have a original set of steel side covers ready to go for my mk3 but still looking for an interstate tank to go with them. 🤔

Purchased a cheap Indian gas tank, $179. Don't waste your money! The average guy would not be able to use it. Seams leaked. the tunnel is to narrow, had to widen it for engine steady to fit with clearance. Front bolts were not located correctly, they shifted the tank against the frame on left side. Just my two cents!

Original Interstate tanks do come up - patience is the key. I found two for people in the last three months. See post #28 in this thread - maybe a little arm twisting and a good bit of cash will get you one. The "breakers" on eBay have them from time to time and they usually go for $200-$500 and sometimes with original paint.

If by chance you don't care about Interstate and just want a big tank, I have a steel long range tank.

So why don't you fabricate it yourself? It is possible, you know, and you will be assured it meets all requirements. Make 4, and yours will be for free.

I do not have the skill set to fab a metal tank myself, after a lot of searching I sourced an original interstate tank from the UK.
