In the end... I didn't do it...!

Went for the all stainless. Nice. Enjoy it. Haven't seen many on the street, although my dealership is selling them fairly regularly.

No stainless... The exhaust system is titanium, front to back... Not necessary... But nice...!

I have to say it......You despise Gold Forks!

Are you going to anodize these to black?
Could be done I suppose.

You are absolutely correct there Glen... I hate them...!

Actually yes, I am looking into options for stripping the forks, anodising the legs and replacing the internals. Although they're Ohlins, they are not adjustable. I'm not a fan of over adjustability cos I think its easy to disappear up your own backside! But no adjustability at all certainly seems a bit old hat.

I might swap the internals with a parked up 961 ...

Can't have everything.....well you could have, but too late now

Here's a bit about the runner up. I wondered why they chose Show a Big Piston over Ohlins forks when they use Ohlins on some of their other upscale models. Answer below.

I'm probably going with K-Tec cartridges Glen, may even go with a K-Tec shock too. We'll see.

For those interested in things decidedly non 961... I posted a few words about riding the R nine T in the motorcycle related discussions thread.

I've had my 961 just over 4 years covering over 8k miles but the "character" niggles have now become enough of a pain in the butt for me to look in to getting a replacement. I figured after a while the R9T was the way to go so tried to do a deal with a BMW shop but they wouldn't take a 961 in part exchange
So it looks like I'm going to be living with the "character" a while longer.

I am sorry to hear that you will be moving on from the 961 Norton. There are other shops that will try and sell it for you by consignment surely. Did you ever get the upgrades and fixes we talked about earlier ?

I spoke to the factory regarding the oil in airbox mod (I get 100ml in the airbox per 100 miles despite a confirmed correct oil level) the fix wouldn't be free and it wasn't going to be cheap and wasn't available till this seasons end, nor could they sell me the mod for my dealer to install. One or two other issues have taken a four year shine off my bike so hence me talking to BMW. I'll hang on to it as is for now.

Your oil discharge rate was as high as mine . I had the same 100ml per 100 miles driven . BUT all fixed now with the oil in air box update. It really does work well. I hope you persist on getting it , because it is well worth it in my view .

I don't understand how the factory can sell something that is faulty, leave you with the problem for years, then when a fix is finally available, charge you for that.
This wouldn't fly anywhere else.

Wow! I don't understand how each build can be so different. Mine generated a mere 20 ml after 600 miles.

I am reaching this same opinion lately. Why am I being charged to re-flash the ECU when both MCC and Norton UK knew I was having their cat-less exhaust system installed right after the Dyno break-in. I need to pay for their miscommunication?! :x

I had to pay for ECU flashing twice. I can understand that. Its either that or stay stock. I didn't get robbed too bad though.

Yeah,

it's the price we pay for going with an aftermarket exhaust.
If there were a power commander for the 961 it would be different, but until then we'll need re-flashes.

Maybe Vance and Hines will get on board. They sell power commanders with their exhaust systems (just did a Harley with my buddy, simple). I think Norton will have to sell a few more bikes before they take interest. They would prefer to make $$ on the mass produced stuff.

Hello Contours , Others have had this opinion as well. Some owners did not discharge much oil into the air box. The problem is more apparent at sustained high RPM operation . Say above 4500 to 5500 RPM on the super slab . This is where I drive most of the time in top gear . When running through the gears often 6000 . Of course in top gear that is reserved for special occasions no body including me wants to get pulled over going 100 + mph.
