Importing historic bike into UK

Ill try to find my old paperwork on that. But I can tell you that you DO leave a lot of the form blank when it cannot be answered or apply.

You been riding that new '68 GEV on froggy plates then?

Wonder how easy the process will be after The Great Fiasco is over...

Can definitely confirm you no longer need either insurance (used to be on the frame number and only valid for 30 days from most insurers) or mot to register a historic imported vehicle. I've registered a trident and a commando in the last few months without these. I actually sent the wrong bit of paper work in for one of those instead of the title (us log book) but after a phone call from a helpful dvla lady she accepted the dating letter from owners club.

Did you send photos of the bikes or just close ups of the engine frame number, or none?

Or rather the Political Cockup formerly known as Brexit now termed The Coming General Election!

As asked earlier by myford, does anyone know If the DVLA require photographs ?

Not sure for your situation but I sent no pix. I did include a copy of my cover letter (insurance).

No the DVLA don't unless an inspection is requested, but if you need a dating cert from NOC then you do need photo's of stamps and of the complete bike to be sent to the NOC, so they know it actually exists and is a Norton. Believe it's the same for all the approved dating organisations and is to stop a modern bike being represented as a over 40 year bike. As you have the French registration then other than a possible inspection no need for photo's.

If you have a unique tax reference here in the UK, then you will find once logged in the online NOVA form. If you have the paperwork from the EU country it takes as little as a few days.
Strangely, each EU country has different paperwork, a vehicle from Holland needs a deregistration and export certificate, any modern car dealer can do it. Fiat, VW, etc even for classics, and takes minutes for them to do and print the paperwork.
A relative has just done this, drove to Holland, bought the bike went to dealer with Dutch owner to get paperwork, declared when arrived at customs on the UK side of the ferry route, given a number filled in NOVA and riding it in less than 7 days.

Different owners clubs use slightly different methods for issuing a dating certificate. The trident and rocket 3 OC "authorise" photos of the bike (both sides) and the frame and engine number. I think the NOC issue a certificate using the photos you send them as their proof and don't stamp or sign the photos. Anyhow, I would send photos of both sides of the bike and close ups of the engine and frame numbers if you are using just the original registration document as your proof of age. Sign these as well. Only about 10% ish of applications ever get inspected as it's contracted out to an external company. Having said all that I registered a 1975 BMW recently on the German registration document and don't think I included photos, but sensible precaution as dvla not the most consistent of organisations!

I had no pix, no dating cert, no inspection of any kind, paper arrived in the post, I went down to nearby garage had the plate that afternoon and was off terrorizing the lanes of Kernow.
If your paperwork was good for the country you purchased it in, and it was in the first world, you will sail through.
