The disk brake came out on some bikes in 1972, and on all bikes in 1973, last year they made the Fastback.
Some folks will tell you the nicest Fastback is the 850 version, which the factory never made.
Bottom line is you make any year bike a nice looking, nice riding Fastback, especially if you are not hung up on factory correctness.

For my money, of which I have none, that Seattle bike is a good buy. You could not execute one yourself for that kind of money. Buy it.

my front mudguard for the 650ss was pricey enough to get shipped from the usa lmao

so whats the general consensus on the 68's not worth bothering with then? frame wise or can they be ok? they seem to fetch strong money here in the UK got a few bikes offered to me

a 68' in green really early one of the first 200 usa import,

69 thats tasty low owners

another 68 thats pricey and waiting on some details on another one through here looking forward to hearing about that one :)

The 'widowmaker' frames on the early ones can be repaired/strengthened - a good welder can weld in a long brace to reinforce the steering head, exactly like all later frames had.
Some would even have had their frames replaced under warranty, look up under the tank to see if this has been done.

Andover Norton will sell you a new frame, to replace the dodgy early ones - for a price.
Might be a bit late to claim warranty on this though. !
 
See, I just think there is something about the Roadsters. I love the way the rear of the frame shows. Either way, great looking bikes.

Did Norton sell some 850s with LR Fastback bodywork in Europe in 74?

I think he must have typed the wrong year or just got the year wrong.
1972 was the last year of the Fastback and LR. There were no 850 Fastbacks.
 
I vote '72 as it has the latest features for a fastback. Below is my roadster converted. However a purely US point of view, the roadster is better looking and I switched back. 2005 at Laguna Seca Grand Prix.

They were all a handsome bike. heres my 1970 and 1971, but modifications have made any resemblance to specific years impossible...but as long as they are a fastback im cool.
 
I believe the black bike is the ultra rare late European RLRFB, or Really Long Range Fastback. :)

Also know as Interback. A modification I first saw from our club president in 1983. Below and just out of the picture is Gene Austin's Longrange Fastback. Photo taken in 1983 on Highway 1 just south of San Francisco.

thanks Jg, They are a labor of love, as is the case with all of us.....cant wait to start my third.
