people who decry the history of slavery might want to research, the kings shilling and pressed into service! women and children losing their breadwinner.
Can we rebuild it?He also took part in the British Army's last ever cavalry charge, I believe.... though that may well lose him 'brownie points' with some...
PS: Can we keep Hadrians Wall, please?
and Gallipoli.....but history can't be rewritten. He gained all the brownie points back years later thoughHe also took part in the British Army's last ever cavalry charge, I believe.... though that may well lose him 'brownie points' with some...

my thoughts exactlyPeople forget, Churchill sacrificed the British Empire in order to defeat fascism, and he did so knowingly.
He was also one of the early voices in support of developing a ‘common wealth’ system to replace the ‘Empire’. A system whereby nations would voluntarily be a part in order to benefit from ‘membership’. This must have been one of the earliest attempts at a modern day international trade deal.
But back to eradicating slavery from history, we should also throw the Coliseum into the sea, along with any / all other Roman remains, plus the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids, any ancient Aztec remains, all remains of Ancient Greece, the Taj Mahal, etc, etc, etc...
The verb: 'Maffick' ie: to be seen: 'Mafficking' is (according to OED): 'To celebrate with boisterous rejoicing and riotous behaviour', as was allegedly the response of the British to the relief of Mafeking. Although BP was seen as a national hero, military historians question the validity of his actions. Although he may have been responsible for the circumstances that led to the word's introduction, I doubt he personally introduced it...Baden Powell introduced a new word into the English language. It is 'mafekinging'. If you like you can drop it in casual conversation some time. It must mean something.
Even the BBC has had to take the "don't mention the war" episode of Faulty Towers off I player
The PC brigade in this country is doing my head in, come on what about free speech
warren Mitchell played alf to perfection. garnett was a racist bigot. it was taking the piss. he hated when knuckle dragging idiots congratulated him on his ideologies. but the truth of the matter is. there has been slavery long before the African slave trade. every old nation has suffered at some point. i refuse to apoligise for something done by my forebears 200 yrs ago. i'll only apologise for something i've done. and when i see the brand on an african american i expect most will apologise for that. don't expect to see it though.Whats particularly stupid about that is that the whole point about that episode is to take the piss out of the narrow minded bigoted opinions of Basil. The German ‘victims’ come across as calm, sensible and dignified, whilst Faulty is jumping around like a lunatic digging deeper and deeper holes for himself !
