Which might explain why the shaft always seems to have wear in the area of the bushes.

I understand the analyzing the beast. Does anyone just ride these things in a normal manner? I am a neutral guy at a stop. Had a clutch cable break one time and it was not pleasant. Now I have to think about oil flow? Not going to worry about that . I have a newly rebuilt engine and trans and certainly dont want to have issues but I am going to ride it like I would any other motorcycle. Sorry to send the thread in a different direction. BTW, that gear indicator is the most useless thing I have ever seen.
JMHO.

The neutral switch fitting sounds like much more trouble than it's worth!

What is wrong with the nice little pointer?, which not only tells you when you are in neutral......but in any other gear.

Amazing how far off topic every thread on this forum seems to get :p

Cheers Time Warp, i think your idea is a good un.. if i just weld a arm to the bolt then i should be able to mount the microswitch.. ill let you all know my results.. and as i stated in the original post (does anybody actually read them) i wanted the switch so that i could use the light in my speedo :)

Cheers
