How many new Nortons have been built?

This has been asked before, but there doesn't seem to be any clear answer.
A recent article in Octane Magazine suggested that the new factory had built 6000 units to date. This seems quite a bit higher than previous estimates I've read.
A common consensus seems to be that around 80% are exported.
In the UK, according to 'How Many Left' website, which uses DVLA data, there are apparently registered and SORN'd, ('off road' at the time), 234 Commandos of all flavours and 152 Dommies. Allowing for a certain number to be unregistered/in collections, let's assume the total in UK is around 450. This would mean the total built would be no more than 2500.
That seems quite low....
Except, while I was at the factory last year, they suggested that they were building around 10 bikes per week, say 500 per year. We are aware that at the beginning they were building less than this, 'till production issues were sorted, so it could well be around the 2500 mark.
It's not really important, but it would be nice to know how 'special' we all are and how many people worldwide have exquisite taste in motorcycles, impeccable judgment and a true understanding of motoring art, :D;).
(Or just suckers for a pretty face....).

I saw a recent interview with Stuart Garner where he stated 'last year' (I assumed he was talking about 2017) 'we built 1000 bikes' and later in interview said 'approx. 75% are exported'

'How many left' database is garbage as the data comes from the DVLA spreadsheets and it uses data from the V5. Their own programming may be good but the base data is not.

Hmmm....

That would suggest that potentially we could be welcoming many new forum members shortly.:)

Based on past info I was thinking the total was around 2000 units or so.
But if 6000 is accurate, I think the brand is well on its way to carving out a real viable niche in the m/c marketplace.

If that's the case, Kudos to Garner and company.

I was told they produce about 10 per week currently, so, thats 500 per year max.

But they’ve only been doing this for a relatively short period. And, as we know, their first years were a rather painful, and slow, growth period where 10 per week seemed like a fantasy!

So, just making some assumptions here: if they’ve been doing 10 per week for 2 years, that’s a 1000. So, thinking about their current ‘high’ numbers, and their first few years of very low numbers, I think it’s fair to say that 6000 is impossible. I’d guess at the 2000-2500 mark.

No matter how many are made, we get to enjoy the one we have so kudos to the entire UK team for that gift and of course Stuart for getting and keeping it going.

My reliable source told me around 4,000 units since the beginning. I doubt Simon will share this info. But I hope he does. But for sure I’m in rare company in Canada. And my dad has 2 961’s. And I know of 5 others close to me.

2000 units approximately was my estimate based on what I had read in published interviews with Mr. Garner.
In early 2014 there was an article with Garner commenting that due to recent loan guarantees from the UK government, the factory would be increasing staff to double monthly production from 12 units per month to 24 before the end of the year.
I think that a very conservative estimate of production would be:

Year............Units...............Rate
2009-2010.....100.................Very early production - a guess
2011............144.................12 per month
2012............144
2013............144
2014............180.................12 per month 9 months/ 24 per month 3 months
2015............288.................24 per month
2016............288
2017............520.................10 per week
2018.............70..................1st 7 weeks of the year

Total..........1878 units

Would be nice if someone from the Firm could verify, or indicate the actual number.

Thanks for the insight in to the site kommando.....the dangers of believing stuff on the interweb, eh.

I certainly share richard-7's view that whatever the number, it's great that there are any around at all and a superb job from all at the factory for getting this far.

Motorcyclistonline July 2016 state that 2000 bikes built and delivered to date and quote Garner saying '...we’re consistently making 15-20 bikes a week for customers all over the world – it varies a bit from one week to another, but that’s the average.'

2000 up to mid-2016 + another 1000-1500 since then?

If the demand for 961's can justify production of 15 to 20 per week, I'd say things are progressing swimmingly.

Educated guess 2,500 , it was about 8 to 10 bikes a week two years ago , & was informed at the time it was a 6 week wait from order to delivery time & it was exactly that .

And Sam just got told 10 weeks. So, whatever the precise numbers this far, business must be good at present!

Now factor in the number that are on the road... in another article about the 961 the question of 'how many are being purchased by investors/collectors versus being ridden' and Mr Garner was quoted as saying he thought it would be about 50/50. So could be as few as 1000-1500 on the road around the globe which means probably less than 400 here in the UK if the 75% export is correct.

Pure speculation I know, but no wonder I haven't actually seen one on the road yet :)

If I remember correctly that was some time ago and he was referring to the 200 limited edition 961SE models.

I wanna know how many 2016 Dominator Nakeds are made. I have a 2016 Naked and SF.
I LOVE both. But mainly concerned about the nakeds production numbers.

I may be wrong, but find the first post with the cracked fork brace. I kind of remember then one of the employee/forum participants said they've built over 2300 bikes and that was the first case he's seen with that problem.

check the engine numbers as they are essentially sequential they start with 501-something. my guess is around 2000 since 2009.
