@MexicoMike a Podtronics is in no way an upgrade to the original rectifier and zener diode.

The advantage of encapsulating the rectifier in resin to stop it from shaking to bits was overcome by the same $2 component they use inside a Podtronics

Over shadowing any kind of advantage is the movement to a regulator that’s away from the open air of the z-plate and in order to keep the heat away from the Podtronics - they short out the AC terminals.

Unless you are going for a series-type reg/rec which opens the AC side when charge is not needed or a MOSFET unit with it’s improved control, a Podtronics (or similar) in my opinion is a step back from the original charging system on the bike.
