Hey everyone I’ve browsed this site for a long time even before becoming a Norton owner, when I was dreaming of owning one. Several years back I bought a 69 Commando S that I believe to be minimally touched/changed with only a little over 3,000 miles . They changed they tank to steel and in doing so they painted it red

Hey new member + question

I am finally getting it painted fireflake blue which I believe it was originally as I could see some of the fireflake blue where some of the red chipped off on the fiberglass side covers. Getting the color is pretty difficult with the lack of info on recreating the color on a steel tank. I feel he got pretty close, what do you think?

My other question is what did these bikes come with from factory for seat knob? It has one with straight notches and one with crosshatch notches and id like to replace one or the other with the correct one

Hey new member + question

Thanks for any input and also excited to be an active member on this forum I’ve looked at for so long !!

Interesting never noticed but my 74 has X knurled pattern and my 75 has straight across like a coin. Can not wait to hear from experts!

Aside for the seat knobs and the chain guard that is from a later model the rest seems to be all period correct... at least to my un trained eye

Looks pretty correct . both mine are origional fireflake blue .
I think your paint looks pretty close . The flakes look bigger .
I could take some pics and post for compairison if you like.
I have about 6 origional blue flake side covers I can get to tomorrow.
I like the pancake seat , I have been looking for the same one but most are thicker than yours .
you still have the white unobtainium plastic ends on the bottom headlight halo ring .

Yes if it’s not much trouble I would like to see pictures of your fireflake blue. I need to find the correct seat knob, chain guard and I’d also like to find one of the tire pumps for it and I will feel satisfied. I’ve been looking for the chain guard for years and never come across one

I will get pics tomorrow .
the parts you are looking for may be available from Andover-norton website

Hello and welcome.....Nice looking bike you've got there. My big brother had a blue fire flake 1970 750 "S" . Your paint job looks quite good (probably looks different in person- as in better). I'm not sure it's possible to re-create that factory look, since the color and fireflake particles since it was in the gelcoat of the fiberglass. As for the seat nob it was the "coin edged" one not the knurled one.

My ‘69 750 S was built in the first week of production. It has the cross hatch knurled seat knobs.

Hmm interesting mine is may of 69 serial 132xxx I forget exact but roughy 1300 after the the start of “S” if I understand the serial number information correctly. Your red looks great by the way, I can’t wait for my blue to get finished.
