Hello Folks
Just found this site , nice place you have here , i've had 3 Commando's over the years , only got my 850 monoshocked Special now , i've just put a photo on the , Show Us Yours , thread .

My passion is bikes , i just love Special builds , so much more interesting than Standard run of the mill builds ,as nice as they are .

Working my way round the site at the moment ,looks like some interesting stuff to pass the dark and cold nights here in the UK .

Chilly

Welcome, there are quite a few of us with odd creations. I like yours, looks very nice.

Wait until you encounter the one called Hobot, your sense of reality will change

Hi Chilly

I'm a big fan of the Special as well. Nothing like building your own limited edition model!
The worrisome thing about Specials is that you dont really know how rideable/ useable the finished product will be until it is done and tested. Nor do you know if the end product will be aesthetically pleasing, unless one copies an existing pattern that has been done in numbers, say a Triton or a Norvin.
Perhaps that is part of the challenge, making a one off look decent and work OK.

Howdy chilly. It i t'wer't such a cheap skate I'd renew my NOC UK membership and hang out with them too. That the bunch that hand held me through Commando practice and lore. But for most isolastic flavors this is the place. I love a beautiful factory restore and awed by the special creations so who can only eat just one.

What is the thing 6 inches under the kick start shaft ,? pray tell . Also youre humble opinion of same . 5.000 words would do . :)

Hello from England

Not to bad at all Eh Wot .

"What is the thing 6 inches under the kick start shaft "

I thought he was talking about the pad to protect the grass from oil spills! :)

Besides the rising-rate linkage pivot point, I believe i see a lower isolastic mount...

This is the device thats in a copy of ' classic bike ' from back then , ive been trying to find a picture on the compuker . :? Will dig it out fortha details .

Sorry for the delay folks just popped back in for a look around again .

The lump under the kickstart is another Iso fitting , i'd seen this done before and reckoned it would assist the handling , the swing arm is a tad longer than standard , handling works well , but maybe it would have been ok without it , something i doubt i'll ever find out  .

Hi Chilly,
There was a similar bike to yours at the NOC ride from the national motorcycle museum to Bracebridge Street a good few years ago, same wheels and exhaust, extra iso. Ring a bell? or just coincidence.

December 1995 , no 191 . Classic Bike .

89 FZR 600 confabultion , with 34Mk II Amals . lightened valve gear , polished rods & a alloy holder for drive side crank journal . so it says .

Goodenough pictures to decipher monoshock linkage . same synonym . Youv e been FOUND . was trying to find the bike in the mag. this week .

" handling works well , but maybe it would have been ok without it , something i doubt i'll ever find out " could be silly & try it with the guts removed .
or the ends off . 7 see if it weaves alll over the plot & throws you in the hredgerow . :( see if the top one counts for anything too , similarly .

DISCLAIMER : It wasnt my idea . I didnt sugest it . I wouldnt care to try it without the lower iso without a fair degree of caution , & a ejector seat .

 Yep ! that was me , lovely sunny day as i remember , came home with my mate on his Rotary at around 90 to 110 mph all the way home , approx 80 miles, the bike rides real nice at those speeds 8)

That NOC meeting was a while back now mate , i think i even had hair then :D

Hi Matt

Was it featured with the ally fuel tank and ally oil tank sitting high in the frame ? that spec certainly sounds like mine .

Have no reason to try it now without the bottom Iso so it stays on the bike

Indeed ; picked up a few dozen classic motorcycle mags a few months back for a buck Ea. Has the red Yam? seatback & oil tank under , Says a Gallon .
looks ike a Litre . :( :? Big funny alloy tank , but all the clips & brackets match youre current npicture . :) Has the name ' Chilly ' @ the shed pic .

Better let me know if you want it ( The Mag.) as a keepsake , if you forgot to keep one or lost it . Send a P.M. if youre after it .

Thanks for that mate , i have the mag somewhere but appreciate the offer

That oil tank was large , the fuel tank kept splitting so it had to go , seat unit modified from a 250 Yam .

Happy with the bike now , but kick myself for not buying some Astralites that came up for sale just as i had run out of cash with the build :(
