Matt Mathews (left) garnered 1st place in the popular judging in the 1960-1964 Vintage Category with his 305 Honda Scrambler, while texasSlick got 2nd place for his 1963 Atlas.

Second place is no big deal, but it beats second place in a gunfight.

I had a lot of fun meeting Norton buffs, especially several, like Matt, who are newbies to Norton's, and asked where they could get help. I naturally pointed them to this Forum.

Matt has a pretty 72 Commando that did not place in that category.

Wish I had met up with more guys from this Forum.

Over 40 years old I think the layshaft bearing would have long gone by now, mine blew outside my house when I put it in gear when it was 4 years old and just on 12,000 miles, my mate's 850 blew about the same mileage but he was 100 miles from home but rode it home in 4th gear all the way, he had to really ride the clutch in one town when he go stuck at a set of lights right on a big hill.
Maybe you need to change handle bars if your back and neck are suffering.

I have a friend in NM who rode to the second Missouri Rally and on the way home his layshaft bearing gave up on his Atlas. They got several quarts of oil, and pulled all the gears but top out and filled it with oil. Had a box full of neutrals and 4th gear, always stopped for gas where the filling station was above the highway so he could roll down hill and back to the highway. I expect his riding buddies could have towed him up to speed if necessary.

That is what one calls a hardcore Norton rider. Nether rain, hail, sleet, snow, nor layshaft bearing shall keep that dedicated rider off of the blacktop. He must push that pair about in a wheelbarrow.

I found the best camp sight. My buds wanted to explore the area. The bike show was from noon to 4. I chose to ride. Great event for trials folks. Doubt I’ll return. The whole harvest classics was trials bikes. Met some great folks.

Yes, the main riding event is Trials, but the "Classic" is still about the classics!

I would have to disagree.
The main riding event was the two days before and the two days after the event.
The event was just fun.;)
