Could someone tell me the approximate size of the gussets on the later Commando swingarm ? I want to strengthen my '71 but I don't have access to a later example to use as a guide.
Thanks in advance.

Did you say approximate? That I can do. They meet in the middle and they still are 1/2" to 3/4" thick at the middle join. (They don't taper down to nothing). Each gusset comes up the leg about 1 1/2" to 1 3/4". The channel stock they are made from is the same dimension as the tubing used for the swingarm. My 74 is just too hard to get a photo or measurement from, sorry. The 75 swingarm has a thick box construction as opposed to the tubing,

By the way, welcome to the site!

Thank you so very much for that information.
I posted the same question twice in the last week over on another forum and the only answer I got was "buy a late model swingarm", not exactly useful information.
This seems more like the neighborhood where I need to hang out .

You can make the gussets out of rectangular steel tubing. Assuming your SA is off the frame for this work, install the rear wheel and push it as far forward in the slots as possible, then measure the clearance on the front and the sides of the tire to determine the size of the gussets. You can cut the tubing into two triangular pieces that form a V where the rear wheel can come forward and fit between.

When welding the gussets in, make sure you have something spacing the rear of the SA so the tabs don't come closer together. I use a piece of all-thread with nuts and washers on the outside and inside of the tabs to help maintain the dimension. You could mount a complete hub/brake assembly with an axle to achieve the same result.
