Great ride on my '66 today, all systems working great

173 MPH indicated on the speedo riding a '96 Ducati 996S was the fastest I've done on the street before I backed off riding in a relatively straight line on Hwy25 Southeast of Hollister CA. The engine was still pulling, but I was running out of straight line of sight. It was the place for people close to that area to see how fast their bikes would go without much fear of getting ticketed. Probably not so much now days.

My '86 GSXR 1100 was quicker, but geared like a dirt bike, so it ran out of legs at around 160mph.

Back to the subject of Monoblocks: The reason I ditched mine on the Atlas in favor of concentrics was that it wouldn't idle on the side stand. Not too long after I made the switch the side stand lug broke so I was back to using the center stand. It stayed that way for 20 odd years. I finally bought a lug and pulled the primary to change it. Idles either way now. The only really fast bike I had was a 69 CB750 Honda. It was faster than either Norton I own as I was able to outrun a 396 Chevelle uphill on 101 at 120 plus. Just slip the clutch to get it up on the cam again when you hit 5th gear. That much I remember.
Well, this is an experiment, maybe it'll be a waste of time but it's OK, it'll be around $125 all up including rebuild kits. I just got a real Mikuni rubber intake flange and the opening is 36mm vs 32. The bike feels peppier. Tall gearing, low compression and single carb don't add up to blazing performance but it gets along pretty good.

Not that I'm a big expert, but 160 mph - that's more than impressive to me. Do you really need to go even faster? I'll probably never understand it because for me, bikes and scooters are primarily about being mobile and quickly getting around the city, where there are plenty of speed limits and traffic. That's why I'm currently considering buying an e-scooter among different brands available at Сherry Wheel. It's the best option for me for work and sometimes leisure rides. Not too high speed, usually around 40 mph, but easy to use. No need to worry about speed limits.
