Is it me.... or does anyone else find this sadly amusing??

'The regulations were introduced over fears that hotter summers brought on by global warming will lead to people opening their windows more frequently, putting them at risk of falling out.'

(Mind you, given the rise in obesity cases 'soon to be an official illness', does this take that into account too?)

That’s bizarre ! Lots of folk jump not just from windows , if they jumping from my house I would prefer that the window is opened first … 😉

Perhaps re-reading that, it's a demand for better building standards so that the windows don't fall out if opened??

Bars and lockable shutters.
Clearly this meathead (dead from the neck up) has never been in a burning building, much less a burning high rise.
I have.
I wish I could recoup the time I have spent over so many years reading the never ending self-important bureaucratic non-sensicle look at me offer nothing bull$hit.

Yet another bureaucrat with too much time on their hands.
1100mm is the standard height for a barrier around a walkway/deck etc, but there are other ways of dealing with windows.

Anyone else on here ever stay in a Travelodge or premier inn?
Always take a set of Allen keys with you so you can open the window more than 2 inches
You may even be able to save your own life if there was a fire blocking your exit

Two thoughts.
Might be a good idea in Russia, where oligarchs often falls from windows.
Wasn't leaving the EU meant to get less red tape?

Crazy, but its the way things are going people live by their AC and heaters these days, but then I don't live in a very cold climate, my house was built in 1955 and I have lived in it all my 64 years except for running away a few times in my youth lol, but in all that time my windows have never been fully closed even in our cool winters gets down to about 6c during the night sometimes.
My wife hates the windows open during winter at night but I can't sleep with them closed and in our hot summers nothing better getting a fresh cool breeze coming off the bay in the afternoons blowing through the house with windows open fully and front and back door open, I live highest point 1km from Moreton Bay on Brisbane N'side, we live sub tropics here and can get very humid and hot in summer but its worst when a northerly wind blows, very hot and humid.
I am old school and hate my house locked up even when out the windows are always left open (I have 2 cattle dogs that look after the house and shed).
In the early days of Queensland settlement the old houses were built with wide verandas to keep them cool in our hot summers (the house designs were called Queenslanders) but a lot of the old houses are being pulled down or moved so new modern houses with full AC and modern touches are built, not for me windows that don't open much, old hardwood houses being replaced by termite eating timber houses, but then a lot of the older houses are getting refurbished which is good to see as not all are changing things.
But health and safety has gone a bit crazy over common sense, I live in a low house but these days can't even work on my roof without putting scaffolding up and the last 20 years it's just getting worst from these rule makers, I have one fire alam in my house because its the rules but new houses a hard wired fire alam in every room but people can't jump out of their windows to save themselves, not me I can get out of all my windows as they are always open.

Here in Vancouver, there are several incidents a year of children/toddlers falling out of opened windows, usually to their death. So I can see the rationale here.

Also, seems this is needed in Russia as lots of undesirables have a recent tendency to "de-fenestrate", likely not by choice.

TBH, whilst I totally get the health and safety issues some have highlighted here, I just found it somewhat ludicrous that 'global warming' was being used as the excuse in the first paragraph quoted..

Though in fairness perhaps they may have a point as you're most likely to be hit by a falling Brit when in Spain or Ibiza or any other sunny package holiday destination. I fact, so fearful was I of my ex's safety when leaning over a hotel balcony in Ibiza, I felt obligated to grasp her hips and pull her towards me....

Repeatedly ;-)

Mind you, could go with the conspiracy theorists and perhaps it's the start towards no windows at all... If you can't see out, you can't see how f*cked up the world is becoming....... (That IS: 'tongue in cheek', BTW, not looking to poke the hornet's nest :) )

In Australia, most people do not seem to know how the regulatory system works, Before neoliberalism arrived Standards Australia created standards by a committee and public consulation process. Engineers and scientists and lawyers and commercial reps acted on committees on a voluntary basis. CSIRO ran an R&D section on building and construction and most of their guys were PhDs.
When laws are developed the standards are used as a basis, but are not directly referenced in legislation. If people end up in court after an incident, the lawyers use the standards in evidence.
To change a law, the best approach is to write to the Standing Committee on Law and Justice in New South Wales. They can change laws in every jurisdiction,.
Some people say 'ignorance is bliss' - apathy is bad in Australia. All authority is delegated indirectly from the crown.

Climate change, the earth has been going through climate changes for billions of years and its only now we are blaming it for everything, so over all the B S that is forced down our throats, maybe might be a good idea to lock all windows to stop everyone jumping out because the world is coming to an end.
I am going for a ride.
