Gearbox neutral switch

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help with the following query? I am having trouble fitting a new gearbox neutral switch to my Mk3 Commando. The new switch appears to be longer than the old Lucas one, it will not fit square on to the gearbox hole as the gap between the gearbox shell and engine casing is too small. Do I bend the spade type terminals that stick out the back of the new switch. The new switch is from Andover Norton and is unbranded, whereas the old one is a Lucas and is broken

You should be fine bending the spades a bit. I am finishing a MK3 restoration and have the same elongated switch to contend with. I did, however, install the switch BEFORE dropping the gearbox in the cradle- a first for me. I usually skip that step, install the gearbox and then fight the switch the whole way, while trying to get the switch properly adjusted to the cam plate. I also made up the red and green wires with 90 degree female spade connectors. It will make that job easier if I ever have to go back in for adjustments.

The wires on my switch already have right angle female spade fittings attached. I can get the switch in OK with the wires off, but not enough room after to get them back on again. Would have liked to have attached a photo of the 2 switches, but can't work out how to do this.

Yep will have a go at bending them a bit. Am concerned that the tiny copper rivets that attach the lugs to the switch may loosen or even break off
