Is the reduced hex 3/16/standard height even used anywhere on any or all series of commado? ... nothing comes to mind.

I found one reference to E3231 being "double height" but photos show normal height oil pump and cam chain tensioner nuts.

So i purchased the RGM inner cover gearbox nuts E3231. The strange thing is they only fit on one of the studs. The studs were wire brushed (don't have a BSF thread reamer) and the really weird thing is the stock nuts fit fine on all the studs. So i'm thinking the RGM nuts are just a little off in terms of the thread pitch (since they fit fine on one of the studs). My question is can i go ahead and torque them down? Picture shows larger stock nut fully seated on the left stud (finger tight) and the RGM nut as far as it would to finger tight on the same stud, but fully seated on the right stud (again finger tight). This is the only stud the RGM nuts would fully seat at finger pressure. They would only go as far as the top left stud on the other studs. Has anybody used these nuts?

Stainless is hard on taps and dies, which is why I have a full set so I can run then over studs and nuts that bind from new.

I wouldn't use any nut that doesn't easily thread with finger pressure. You're only going to use about 15 ft lbs on those.

Yeah, that's my thinking. Still curious if anyone has used these nuts and if they fit properly.

i fitted the foresaid nuts from RGM down new studs supplied from AN without any issues.. this was back in December last year

Maybe i just got a bad set. Were yours double height like mentioned in post #21?

When I rebuilt my gb last winter, I do not recall having a hard time with any casing nut and I assure you I have no fancy sockets or wrenches. Cant recall precisely what I used on the tight access ones, but it wasnt a big deal.

I reduced the size of these nuts to metric ( 13 mm) like I did with several other nuts and bolts on my bikes ( quelle horreur ! )
Not because I lack the correct tools, but it is simply more practical for me.
If I ever need assistance from a local workshop in , say, Poland or Portugal, I'm sure they can help me out.
The alternative is to carry all that witworth and inch stuff with me, while I most likely won't need it anyway.
The chisel and hammer approach by the side of the road is even less appealing..

Does anyone know the thread size/pitch/form on the stud threaded into the gearbox shell?
To be clear, the threads in the shell, not on the end that takes the nuts.
