Hi All. I'm sure that I have read on the forum that a change in gear box oil eliminates that graunch that some 961's have on pull away (Clutch). Mine in a 2016 MK11. Can anyone confirm this and if so what oil was used.
Many Thanks in advance.
Mark.

Hello Norty2 , I have never had this problem. But I have read others said that a change to semi-synthetic 10W40 JASO MA approved oil is what to use. I use Shell Rotella T6 5W40 for Diesel Engines . This is because of availability and is also JASO MA approved .

Many Thanks TonyA. I am using a semi 10/40 so will experiment with something else on next service.

I changed to Liqui Moly 20-50 HD Synthethic Motorbike Oil - quietened down the gears and eliminated the clutch grab I was having on take off.

I know this is a "why would you want to? " type question, but what if I used a straight up oil instead of a synthetic blend? Is the blend for engine life only?

Hi Britfan , Are you asking why not use a100% non-synthetic oil ? Yes you can BUT , the synthetics have been shown to perform better and last longer. Perform better in the high and low temperature extremes (stays thicker when its hot and more fluid when its cold) . This protects the engine parts from metal to metal contact. And longer lasting in that it stays in grade longer and fights the effect of fuel and contaminate dilution. The process of shearing the molecules apart between tight surfaces like gear teeth and cam lobe to tappets . A non-synthetic oil will shear out of grade faster than a synthetic. The oils typically shear down and become thinner so to speak. There are many aspects to oil testing and this just scratches the surface. Are synthetic oils better YES , in every respect except cost. I think the answer to your question then is YES engine life only. Also , lets not forget that Norton are expecting to get 6,000 miles between oil changes and to achieve that synthetics are mandatory.

Thanks Tony. I run full synthetics in my cars except an old Mercedes. 20/65 mineral in my old Bonnie. Is the 20/50 blend ok in cooler temps. like 40-45? I can see running it when its hot. By the way, Revzilla has the 10/40 Silkolene by the liter and the 4 liter container.

In the Tranny yes . The cold pumping time to the hydraulic lifters is another question. I think others are running 20-50 in the motor on this forum . Like Raphi. If you don't have an issue with oil consumption , Is it really necessary ? Some people are saying that it smooths or quiets the primary.
