Gauze filter or not in sump plug ?

As an exporting national particularly with ag products we are at the wim of our trade partners but at the end of the season ( now ) as meat companies are having a procurement battle the price per kilo is around $7.60 kg- $7.90 kg paid to sheep farmers .We average around 19 kg for our lamb,Less costs obviously ... NZ inflation is around 6.7%, farm inflation is around 16-17 % so there ain't much left over for a NYC sump filter !
Barter is good....anyone ? 😀
There was a recent post of a photo showing a DIY sump reed valve made from the oem sump plug with a single Yamaha XS365 reed valve fitted. Looked pretty good and should only running you a couple of lamb chops (that valve still runs about $30 CAD I believe).

Since it shouldn't hurt anything, and it makes you more comfortable then it's a good thing. However, the oil leaving the tank is quite far from the bottom of the tank and anything heavier than oil will settle at the bottom. Personally, putting a loose magnet in the crankcase would worry me but I guess captured in the sump plug is safe.
I no longer have the stock sump plug now (NYC reed valve)...but to me as you say captured in the bottom of the sump plug poses no risk 👍
The 🧲 magnets ive got have a powerful field. That one on the filter is 30mm x 9mm 👇
The one in the oil tank is almost opposite the breather inlet tube that is clean as a whistle

It sux what the current regime is doing to our farmers like yourself with all their regulations and poor choice of trading partners.
They all need throwing out on their ear

Speaking to a dairy farmer last week he was jealous of the current lamb auction prices in the UK. But farmers always think the grass is greener as do the 2 escaped lambs that currently try to get into my garden on a daily basis ;) .

Shane,
Where do I find the magnets you use?
Thanks,
Mike

In NZ the Dairy payout is currently well over $8 kg/milk solid which is historically very high, but currently due to that farm inflation many will struggle to break even at that price......maybe I can barter with a dairy farming Norton owner 😂

Thermal Characteristics
Neodymium Material Type Maximum Operating Temp Curie Temp
N 176°F (80°C) 590°F (310°C)
NM 212°F (100°C) 644°F (340°C)
NH 248°F (120°C) 644°F (340°C)
NSH 302°F (150°C) 644°F (340°C)
NUH 356°F (180°C) 662°F (350°C)
NEH 392°F (200°C) 662°F 👍(350°C)
NAH 428°F (220°C) 662°F 👍(350°C)
The Thermal Characteristics listed above are values commonly associated with each magnet's grade or material. Actual performance in your application may vary with other factors, including the shape of the magnet, the Permeance Coefficient or load line, and how it is used in a circuit. See our in-depth article on Temperature and Neodymium Magnets for more details.

Hi Iain,

I'll have to wait till after scanning this week to let me know how much of a potential natural increase in lamb numbers we have this yr to pay for the cost of getting that over from the States 😂 ...it's tempting tho !

Hendo
You could make a cheaper version and save a few hundred bucks.
