Front Fork Seals

Just a quick update on my fake seals from eBay.
The seller waited to contact me until just prior to the deadline, then said that the seals were as described. However he would take them back & refund the purchase price and postage, but he wanted them returned using "signed for" postage. Since Ebay also requires a tracking number, I did this, resulting in me getting a refund of the _original_ postage & purchase price but not the return postage.

So now I'm out of pocket by 15€ and Ebay does not care - surprised?

Moral of the story is that Ebay supports trade in fake goods, and don't buy from sellers who don't show the packaging.

Update from original post, excellent seals, no stiction and no leaks under race conditions , so happy about that, still a little bit of patter so going to try a full tank of fuel next time out in early September to get more weight over the front, see if that helps.

Trademe in NZ has the same policy.

Mike,
I hope those seals cured your problem. I am preparing to install a set of Lansdowne cartridges soon. Do you like them? I know your set up for the track which is a bit different than street set up. I'm running hagons in the back when I swap out the old stuff, running street only with as much travel as possible for old backroad runabouts. I too enjoy the track and run a Paul Smart set up which is fun but not really competitive as the rider is old and broken. Track days only and that's on a temp hold due to work.

I'd be curious about your experience with the fork kit, the good bad and maybe some setup experience. Thanks Ken

Hi ken, yes happy with both sets of LD inserts, race bike took a bit more set up and fine tuning as i was dealing with a couple of other issues now resolved .
Roadster was pretty much plug and play and quite easy to fine tune running back and forth over the same twisty and hilly length of road.
Now have them set
Highly recommended if you are sticking to Roadholders .
Regards Mike

Anybody know of a US source for the Ariete part# ARI-003T fork seal for a Norton? I see them available all over Europe on Ebay, but it costs about $55 USD delivered, with postage being almost 2X the part cost. Searching the i-net, couldn't find any vendor in the US carrying them.

I use, and like, Leakproofs, but if anything I think they ADD stiction compared to "conventional" fork seals, so probably not the route you want to go.

To answer my own question, I found the subject seals at an Italian firm CarpiMoto

http://www.carpimoto.it/en-US/

and got 2 sets of seals (4 seals total) delivered to MN for ~ $33 USD.

I think you made the right choice in hanging out to find the Ariete seals - there is a marked difference in the quality of these compared to the ones sold by our dealers.

They just feel right!

I would also try TW25B semi-oil on the stanchions and try and work in through the seal lips prior to each meeting, you can get it easily in the states from the gun shops. As some of you may know it is an excellent product for reducing friction and keeping metal clean. When applied if you can see it there is too much applied so polish it off then it will not collect dust and sand, takes a bit of convincing that it is still there lubricating but numerous conflicts in the middle east have proven it works.
